How to Develop a PowerPoint Pitch Deck for Biotech Investor PresentationsCraig Shimasaki
A critical tool for all biotech entrepreneurs is an Investor Slide Deck or “Pitch” Deck. This example is provided to help those who want guidance on what topics and information are important for a biotech investor presentation. I have put together some basic information about what a biotech investor pitch deck should contain when presenting for the first time to a group of potential investors. Realize that this is not a template per se in which to simply fill in the blanks, but an ordered list of topics that are significant to most all biotechnology investors. About TED
TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.
TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TED Prize.
About TEDx, x=independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

About TEDxCLE
At TEDxCLE event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. TED provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including TEDxCLE, are self-organized. TEDxCLE was organized by Clevelanders Hallie and Eric Kogelschatz in an effort to bring Cleveland innovation, development, and positive change to the world.
CREATIVE PLACEMAKING: Thinking Beyond Projects
In the words of a recent National Endowment for the Arts report, Creative Placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired.
Arts and culture have been a part of community revitalization and economic development strategies for years. Creative Placemaking is more than a new term for this effort -- at its highest levels, it involves a new way of thinking about the role of creativity in making society more sustainable. It is not just about doing projects -- it is also about the thinking behind the projects and about making stronger connections between creative, community and economic development.
Learn from experts and practitioners who have been at the heart of efforts to use creativity to grow communities and get a sneak peek at Creative Placemaking in action. Our three panelists will provide some helpful examples of what they have done in their communities:
Steve Dalhberg, is director of the Connecticut-based International Centre for Creativity and Imagination, vice president of innovation for Future Workplace, and faculty of "Creativity + Social Change" at the University of Connecticut.
Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP is the Director of Arts Build Communities at Rutgers University. He will discuss Rutgers¹ community coaching program and ABC¹s new Master Practitioner Certificate Program in creative placemaking.
The Wormfarm Institute in Sauk County, Wisconsin, is rural creative placemaking at its best. It's a 40-acre organic vegetable farm and creative hub, begun 15 years ago by artists Jay Salinas and Donna Neuwirth. Wormfarm aims to recreate the link that once existed between culture and agriculture with innovative and intuitive efforts that center around a sense of the land and the community.

A workshop presented at the National Scenic Byways Convention discussing how to create a charismatic brand for your byway that encompasses each community\'s intrinsic qualities under one theme.
Using the expertise of a range of Rotary literacy activists, this session will concentrate on the development of tangible and useful local literacy projects for families and children. A special focus will be on programs for children from birth to 7 and how Rotary projects can assist in ensuring that all children have opportunities for good beginnings in their journey towards becoming functionally literate adults. Project initiation, subsequent development, and funding ideas will be highlighted.
Do Not Trust the System, Establish Your Own SystemFahri Karakas
In this workshop, I have just told the truth, only the truth to my students. Here is the core message:
You cannot trust the system. You cannot trust institutions. You need to create your own system to design your life and be independent. This means taking control of your own life, career, and money.
The world is crazy and full of shit out there. The earlier you realize this, the less you will get disappointed.
The world is changing fast, but our systems, governments, universities, and institutions are unfortunately slow in adapting to these changes. That is why you need to assume full responsibility for your own learning, development, and asset creation.
Even though many things look very bleak, you can still survive and thrive in this environment. You need to think and act like an entrepreneur.
You need to learn about personal finance and investments to achieve financial independence in your life. This involves creating multiple income streams, creating assets, and creating a path to financial freedom.
The lecture includes the following contents:
The Eye-Opening Pessimist Workshop: Thinking Critically and Questioning the System
Disrupting Education and University of the Future
Award-Winning Documentaries
£111 Exercise, Personal Finance, and Compounding
Crowdfunding Platforms and Kickstarter Exercise
Workshop: Self-Making Studio
Turning £5 to£5000 Exercise
This composite lecture addresses the following questions:
Can we trust the global system? Can we trust capitalism? Can we trust corporations? (The Answer is: No)
Can we trust our educational systems? (No)
How can we build and design educational systems and universities of the future?
Why is it critical to question the system and everything in it?
How can we develop our own independence and power in a world or a system that cannot be trusted?
Why is personal finance the most important ingredient in achieving your independence?
How can you achieve financial freedom in your life?
How can you think and act like an entrepreneur? Where do you start if you have fresh and exciting ideas you want to bring to the world?
Why is compounding indispensable for achieving long term success, richness, freedom, and contribution?
The overall thread that connects this lecture is to question the systems that you find yourself embedded into, whether these might be economic, social, educational, or organizational systems.
You need to question everything so that you can create your own independent thinking, agency, and independence in your life.
A multidisciplinary visual tour that includes videos, slides, exercises, articles, and suggestions on how to achieve this.

2. I had a nervous breakdown at the age of 37.
I had just come to terms with the most frustrating,
depressing set back of a year.
I felt like I was going through a midlife crisis.
I lost most of my confidence.
It was one event after another that were damaging blows
bringing me to my knees. I was being challenged.
So I had to dip into my gratitude bank account and
resurrect myself out of the ashes.
I have lived a full life. And I knew that I needed to look
back and record all of my accomplishments, triumphs and adventures. This was the antidote to my pain.
This is my timeline up until 2014 at age 38.
