The Heart of David
• The name David means beloved.
– This is the type of heart that is required of a
good king. 2 Chronicles 10:7
• The man David in the Bible exemplifies
many good qualities. Acts 13:22; Deut. 7:7
– We can examine his life and see the good
qualities we need to be “after God’s own heart”.
– We too can be made into a royal family of God.
1 Peter 2:9-10; Revelation 1:6
David the Shepherd
• Shepherds are to be caring.
– As David was… 2 Sam. 9:1-7
– Just as Christians must be today. 1 Peter 3:8-9
– Like elders of the church should be. 1 Peter 5:1-5
– Christ himself is like this… Matthew 9:36
• Shepherds also protect the flock.
– David was protective… 1 Samuel 17:34-37
• The Lord is our Shepherd. Psalm 23:1-6
David the Singer
• He had a cheerful heart! Psalm 21:1
• He worshipped with joy. 1 Chron. 15:25
• He sang for joy to the Lord… Psalm 138:1
• Today we should sing with a cheerful heart!
James 5:13
• Today we do this by letting the word of
Christ dwell in us richly… Col. 3:16
David the Soldier
• David demonstrates a courageous heart.
1 Samuel 17:37
• He encouraged this heart… 1 Chron. 28:20
• God encourages us to have this heart
today. Psalm 27:14; 1 Cor. 16:13
• A soldier is obedient to the commander, our
Captain is Jesus! 2 Tim. 2:1-8; Heb. 2:10
David the Servant
• He had a compliant heart.
• God made note of it… 2 Chron. 6:7-10
• Some Psalms proclaim it… Ps. 119:97
– “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my
God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the
land of uprightness.” Psalm 143:10
• Today God looks for this… Eph. 6:6
David the Dependable
• His heart was committed in righteousness.
• Seen with Mephibosheth… 2 Sam. 9:1-7
• Toward Saul and the Lord…
1 Samuel 26:9-11, 13-25
• This commitment is an important quality
today called faithfulness. Galatians 5:22
• We should have this quality to the end.
Revelation 2:10
Will You Reign With Christ?
• If we follow Christ we can! Rev. 5:10; 20:6
• Christians do partake of God’s blessings…

• The question is, will you follow and partake
of these things? Luke 9:23
