Education Post Lockdown

college, wide variety of edtech roles
• Briefly, my COVID saga: Teacher again!
Crossroads
• Honestly? Most educators just want a
return to “business as usual.”
• Even if COVID 19 vanished tomorrow,
I’m not sure this is desirable/possible.
• Benefits of online teaching/learning
now obvious (despite issues/denial).
Crossroads
• Mechanics first, not methodologies:
The Digital
Divide --
Internet
access,
hard/software,
etc.
Tangibles
• Some type of Learning Management
System (LMS) will be an integral
component of teaching/learning.
Tangibles
• Some students won’t/can’t go back to
F2F, at
least not
completely.
Online is
better for
various
reasons.
Intangibles
• Some say edtech can cover every
aspect except the human connection,
but this isn’t necessarily true…
Intangibles
• Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the
most important factor that will be
facilitated via educational technology.
Virtual Future
• I’ve been promoting virtual worlds for
14 years, now people finally get it! ;)

• Virtual reality for personal interaction,
field trips, simulations, everything!

• Teachers will NOT become obsolete,
but their roles will
continue to
evolve, along
with with those of
their students!
