presentation for Digital Cities 5 Workshop at the Communities and Technologies 2007 Conference / Michigan State University. Athor: Viktor Bedö / www.bedoviktor.net
Semantic 3D City Models are the basis of a new generation of virtual reality. The most relevant objects within a city including manmade and natural objects are mapped to objects within a semantic 3D city model. These objects are classified, further substructured (e.g. a building is decomposed into roof and wall parts etc.), attributed, and have spatial and semantic relations to other objects. The international standard CityGML issued by the Open Geospatial Consortium provides a common vocabulary and definitions for describing and managing urban entities which enables interoperability over the many different cities all over the world.
This presentation shows how CityGML based semantic 3D city models are used to link data from diverse application fields like energy planning, disaster management, and environmental analyses on a stable ground. Special focus is on the support of strategic energy planning, demonstrated for the research project "Energy Atlas Berlin" that was funded by the "Climate KIC" of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT). We show the city-wide estimation of the energy demands of buildings including heating, electricity and warm water energy in the city of Berlin using available official geobase and statistical data integrated within the Energy Atlas Berlin.
The tools have been mostly developed at the chair of Geoinformatics at Technische Universität München (TUM). They are now being further developed in follow-up projects and applied with housing companies, energy suppliers, and urban retrofitting initiatives. For further information see the references on the last two slides.

Visual Data Representation Techniques Combining Art and DesignLogo Design Guru
Visually representing data is becoming increasingly popular. Companies are investing thousands of dollars in getting their data created using design elements. From large enterprises to small businesses, everyone is hunting for techniques to help them make dull and monotonous data into something attractive.
Designers thoroughly study data and then invest all these imagination into making it simpler for everyone to understand it. Minimizing information and making it universal is the key to data visualization.
From infographics to presentations and software to tools, there are many techniques one can use to enhance the look of spreadsheets, Big Data and analytics.
Here are visual techniques to help you display your data in an aesthetically pleasing way. You can use some of these or all of them. These tips are not limited to the web or print, but can also be used for television. In fact, weather forecasting channels use visuals like maps, icons and GIFs to represent information.
Want your data to stand out? Use these techniques to uplift your data.

Presentation in Course Professional use of internet and social media for university faculty staff University of Fort Hare and University of Limpopo, South Africa
Digital technology is changing the way we live our lives in areas such as banking, entertainment, education and tourism. This technology also has the capacity to transform civic society – including democratic participation, citizen journalism and supporting local communities. National and Local Governments around the world are opening up the data that they hold for reuse by others. The reuse of Open Government Data facilitates transparency, participation, collaboration and economic development.
The aim of Code for Ireland is to bring together people from local communities, software developers and people working in government in order to develop apps and services that solve community problems and also to enable open government. The first Code for Ireland chapter has been established in Dublin and in the coming years additional chapters will be established in other Irish cities and towns.

Blog – Automotive Industry Analysis and Commentary – April 2023
Summary:
Forecasters expect U.S. auto sales to increase about 10% in April vs. a year ago.
That’s a substantial improvement, based on better new-vehicle availability. It’s also the ninth month in a row when monthly auto sales exceed the year-ago total, according to S&P Global Mobility.
However, the increase is less impressive than it looks, because U.S. auto sales were down sharply in April 2022 due to low inventory, so it’s an easy comparison.

Improving our Policy Engagement Strategies-South Asia Urban K-HubMichelle Laurie
These slides were a refresher of the policy engagement strategy with a focus on research communications. They were used as part of a learning meeting focused on communicating our research with the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub in March 2015.
Introduction to policy briefs for researchersMichelle Laurie
These slides supported a one hour session introducing policy briefs to urban development researchers as part of a learning meeting of the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub in March 2015. A variety of helpful resources are included at the end. It's designed so participants could also do this at a station in a small group on their own.
This presentation supported the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub March 2015 learning session on identifying your audience, developing key messages and an elevator pitch. This was part of a 2 day learning meeting on communicating our research.
A quick history of knowledge management is provided. KM is then explained in the context of the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub, an initiative of researchers aiming to influencing policy and practice in the urban development sector. The focus is on how the K-Hub can use KM to enhance their ability to facilitate positive change.

Data Centers - Striving Within A Narrow Range - Research Report - MCG - May 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”
