• Who is a Data Steward?
– A Data Steward can be anybody in the organization (business or
technical) that defines, produces, and/or uses data as part of their job if
they are held formally accountable for what they do with the data.
• Everybody is a Data Steward
– A Data Steward is a person that defines, produces or uses data as part
of their job and has a defined level of accountability for assuring quality
in the definition, production or usage of that data.

• DAMA Data Governance & Stewardship Professional (DGSP)
– The Data Governance certification offered by DAMA is based on the
Data Governance practice area described in the DAMA Data
Management Body of Knowledge document (DMBOK) which was
published in 2009.

Available Certifications
GSP - Data Governance and Stewardship Professional
The Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP) credential is
awarded to those who qualify based on a combination of criteria including
education, experience and test-based examination of professional level
knowledge of data governance and stewardship. This credential is offered at
the Mastery or Practitioner level. To maintain certified status and continued
use of the credential, an annual recertification fee along with a 3-year cycle of
continuing education and professional activity is required.
The Data Management Association International (DAMA) authorizes the Data
Governance and Stewardship Professional credential in partnership with the
Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP), which
administers testing and recertification. This document outlines the
requirements for obtaining the DGSP.
