Ravana performed intense penance for Brahma, chopping off his head 10 times as a sacrifice. Each time, a new head grew back, allowing him to continue. Pleased, Brahma granted Ravana 10 heads and knowledge of the six Shastras and four Vedas. Alternatively, the 10 heads represent 10 negative forms of love like ego, lust, anger, and greed. Ravana was a great scholar and king, but it was his ego that ultimately led to his downfall in battle with Rama.

Rakshasas. He is said to have ten heads.
But not many people know that he was
not born with ten heads. Let's unravel the
mystery...
Ravana performed an intense penance -
tapasya - to Brahma, lasting several
years. During his penance, Ravana
chopped off his head 10 times as a
sacrifice to appease Brahma. Each time
he sliced his head off, a new head
arose, thus enabling him to continue his
penance. At last, Brahma, pleased with
his austerity, appeared after Ravana's
10th decapitation and offered him a
boon. Ravana asked for immortality,
which Brahma refused of course, but
gave him the celestial nectar of
immortality, which we all know was
stored under his navel

inflates the ego which makes
us take steps to protect self

LUSTA psychological force which produces
an intense desire for an
object. Lust can take any form such as
the lust for sexuality , love, money or
power.

9. 3)KRODH -ANGER
The anger of not getting the things
which we want destroys us, anger is
what leads to violence.

10. 4)LOBHA - GREED
Greed knows no boundaries, desire to
acquire money/power/material as
much as possible is greed.

11. 5) MOHA- ATTACHMENT
Too attached to possessions, today it literally
translates into materialism. Attachment to
something materialistic to such an extent that our
souls are completely ignored is MOHA.

Too proud on anything sometimes leads to
arrogance, we must not disregard the efforts
of anyone and shall always keep our feet on
the ground – means we should always be
down to earth

it is jealousy that leads to wars that end but
last for generations. Wining over it is simple –
accept that not everyone is same, deal with
rejection gracefully and spread love.

We must not make our ego and greed more
supreme than us and must care about others
emotions as well

Hatred is a feeling. It can cause an angry,
or resentful emotional response, which can
be used against certain people, or ideas.
This was the emotion controlled and
destroyed ravan eventually

An emotion induced by perceived danger or
threat is fear. We must not fear of losing
wealth, possessions and position as it make us
to take evil actions.

sciences, he was well versed with all
the Vedas and Purans, he had
authored “Ravan Samhita” which talk
about the science of Ayurveda.
2) There are several places in India and
Sri Lanka where Ravana is being
worshipped.
3) Ravana is considered to be the most
revered devotee of lord Shiva, he is
said to have pleased Shiva with
penance to an extent where Shiva
handed over an ATMA LINGA (SOUL
OF SHIVA) as boon to Ravana.
4)Shrimali Brahmins worship Ra
vana and have the belief that
they are descendants of Ravana,
a great scholar and devotee of
Lord Shiva. On Dussehra the 60-
odd families belonging to
the Dave Godha and Mudgal
gotra of the
Shrimali Brahmin community in
Jodhpur shut themselves up in

Ravana's head when Ravana tried to appease him.

of Ayurveda and political science. His ten heads represent that
his knowledge of the six Shastras and the four Vedas.
3) BE A GOOD KING - Ravana was a very efficient and just
ruler, acknowledged even in Valmiki's Ramayana. In his rule,
Lanka was called Sone ki Lanka, and entered the golden and
most prosperous period in its history.
4) NEVER FORGET THAT EGO KILLS – It was Ravans ego
which negated all his divine qualities and dragged him to
death.
5) CONTROL ON YOUR LUST/ANGER/GREED EMOTIONS –
we must control the emotions to reach the top, once these
emotions are controlled we may attain our specified goals.
