4. Architectural feature:
1. The building is two storied.
2. Entry is in south side.
3. Room height is around 12foot high.
4. Wall thickness is around 30inch.
5. Total 16 room and one staircase and 3 toilet in the
building.
6. Main Staircase is located on south side.
7. Toilet is on north side.
8. Two miners is located on north side and they has a
circular staircase.
9. The miners are hexagonal and has a triangular grooved
ornamentation and a conical dome on it.
10. There are also two another outer staircase on east and
west side of the building connected with 1st floor.

11. Plan is divided into 3 grids and the middle grids rooms are
bay shaped in east and west side.
12. Has a 30inch cornice around the top slab.
13. A 20inch thick parapet is designed with stepped details.
14. Doors are shallow arch on ground.
15. There is also a wide concrete stepped and ramped road
constructed by British period which is connected between
‘darul adalat’ and ‘devpahar’ road.

1. The building is load bearing structure
made off brick .
2. Mortar made by send, lime, brick chips.
3. Plaster made by send and lime.
4. Wall was finished by white paint.
5. There are iron made I beams are used.
6. Rod is also used in slab.
7. Door and window made by wood and
grilles are made by cast iron.

1. As because it was 1st court in the Chittagong city that is why emotionally local people connected to it.
2. Local people used to have easy access to work in this building then people used to socialize with, but after it
went under the college authority this, accibility is cancelled.
3. Day by day people get less aware about this.
Economy:
1. This building is the proof that once there was an economic influence of Portugal into Chittagong city. (If we
consider 16th century’s impact of Portuguese at Chittagong.
2. They didn’t use the main building after changing the authority, but they use the whole site for different
purpose.
3. If we preserve this building this may be use later for tourism purpose.
4. When this building was a port building, lots of activity was happening at the time by centralizing it.
INFLUENCE OF DARUL ADALAT:
9. Political:
1. There is a political quarrel going on over this building that is, government want to preserve it for future
generation and the college authority want to demolish it for making library.
Climate:
1. As because, it was build at 1761, a lot climate change happen and that has a huge impact on the building
itself because before all the buildings were in bricked structure, and it was sufficient amount of windows at
every facade.
2. This building is a bricked structure and the material they use is bricks, lime and chips.
3. The wall is 2.6 to 3 ft wide.
4. Even though building is at the top of a hill, there are many trees surround it as a result it get less sunlight but
as because it has lots of trees around the air flow create a natural vitalization.
5. For the thickness of the wall, the sunlight can never reach the center room.
6. It is a very old building and it is also damaged also roof and wall are cracked, for all this its stability hang in
balance.
