During a speech at the Philippine Halal Assembly International Conference and Expo 2015, HRH Alem Daridary discussed the importance of halal foods for Muslims. He began by defining halal as anything that is valid and legal under Sharia law. Specifically for food, halal requires that meat comes from animals slaughtered in the name of Allah and their throats are cut, and that non-animal foods come from legitimate sources free of dirt, blood, or other impurities. He noted that the topic of halal is profound and extensive, as it also applies to human transactions that are conducted with good faith.
