 Communicated with community health workers from among medical and non-medical personnel for integrated
community support interventions for active screening and improved treatment response in TB cases,
contributing to reducing TB incidence and mortality in Romania by improving diagnosis, treatment and
prevention with special focus on key populations.
 Created, managed and posted project-related articles on website and social media channels.
International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) – Advocacy Officer, Biblionet Program Romania,
2008 – 2014
 Provided advocacy expertise to IREX’s Biblionet Program - as part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's
Global Libraries Initiative - in designing an advocacy training tool kit for community development by facilitating
access to information via the Internet within equipped public libraries manned by librarians trained in IT and
modern library service development and management;
 Worked with relevant governmental, community, and library stakeholders in networking, policy advocacy, and
training activities in support of the program, librarian, and community goals;
 Designed and conducted model advocacy workshops for librarians, in tandem with key community
stakeholders - according to the "whole-system-in-the-room" methodology - with key members of the National
Association of Librarians and Public Libraries of Romania and with urban and rural librarians with a view to
developing implementable and fundable action plans;

International Consortium for Medical Abortion (ICMA), Part-time Coordinator, International Campaign

 Coordinated the building of strategic partnerships with women’s health and rights advocates, health
professional organizations, governments, ministry officials, UN and human rights groups/bodies;
 Promoted the legitimacy of the right to safe abortion in all forums addressing women’s health and rights,
including those reviewing the MDGs, ICPD, Beijing, the UN Secretary-General’s initiative for women’s and

 Assisted in implementing a multifaceted MVA training and distribution project; expanded focus to encompass
gender and violence-related issues; initiated a policy assistance project for the Internally Displaced Persons
from Abkhazia, in collaboration with the Abkhazia Government in Exile; conducted networking and advocacy

adolescents in Niger, with the specific objective of reducing the incidence of STIs, including HIV, and the
number of undesired pregnancies via reproductive health education and services;
 Promoted a proactive, integrated approach, involving youth and traditional leaders’ organizations in all stages
of the initiative development; highlighted the human rights, gender, and sexual and domestic violence aspects
as crosscutting issues; secured the political will of all players involved.

Contraception in Romania, 2001
 Conducted and documented qualitative interviews with providers and clients of abortion and contraception
services in the governmental and nongovernmental sectors in Romania and participated in writing the
evaluation report.

 Designed and implemented strategies in favor of a supportive policy environment for the development of
policies regarding women’s and young adults’ health, by mobilizing stakeholders from public, NGO, media, and
international agency sectors; forged community coalitions and networks and gave technical assistance in
networking, policy, and advocacy skills.
 Pioneered NGO coalition-building and reproductive health and rights advocacy campaigns in collaboration with
the public sector and the media; garnered support for the Reproductive Health NGO Coalition from major
Romanian government ministries, the Presidential office, Parliament, and international agencies; conducted
and coordinated the “Women Choosing Health” and “Women Voting Health” advocacy campaigns; secured
support from and operated in partnership with the corporate sector to maximize impact of advocacy caravans
in rural areas; created partnerships between reproductive health experts and journalists, designed and applied
media strategies, produced press kits related to women’s and young adults’ reproductive health and rights;
created venues for policy issue presentations to policymakers and served on numerous panels to present
policies and strategies regarding aspects of reproductive health and rights as part of national and international
forums; mobilized government and NGO health experts to develop a package of reproductive health services
and support the inclusion of the basic benefits package in health insurance; conducted groundbreaking
advocacy workshops for NGOs and produced an advocacy training manual in Romanian.
 Fundraised successfully with commercial and pharmaceutical companies and involved the First Lady and key
Government officials in the advocacy campaigns; assisted USAID Romania in producing and launching the first
press kit on men’s responsibility in reproductive health; networked with Parliament and the Ombudsman’s
Office to reverse C-section denial to HIV-positive pregnant woman and presented the case as an example of
infringement of human rights at international forums.
