Early 2009 Ms Kim Stewart (A/Director Health Protection, NSW Health) sent the attached letter requesting all NSW public and private laboratories to add referral notes to all sexually transmissible infections (STI) and HIV results. This initiative was endorsed by the NSW Microbiology Laboratory Network and aimed to support patients and their doctors by providing timely information when receiving test results for STI and HIV. Some laboratories have added the information to their pathology test results prompting calls to the NSW Sexual Health Information Line.
