2. Relationship of built form towards green space, Rome
Lewis Carroll Primary school extension
An expansion on an existing primary school at the fringe of
National park Via Appia antica between the via appia green
space and the growing urban population. The project is lo-
cated in Italy, Rome at south of the city following a stretch of
greenland park that connects the city to the landscape. The
design project focuses on enhancing and creating new facil-
ities for academic learning and recreation for both existing
school users as well as proposed public. The proposal grew
out of a series of analysis form site condition as well as site
characteristics. One of the main characteristic that the project
focuses is learning as there seems to be a lack of academic
building that can provide spaces for study and learning for
neighbouring school and educational facilities.
It has an interest of rehabilitating primary school Lewis Car-
roll which lies in between a hill and the city. As the main fo-
cus of design project I have chosen to rehabilitate the school
expanding it for additional use and future school needs. The
project focuses on proposing a learning facility as a library,
with additional classrooms and canteens for use of school and
public. The Facilities work within a time schedule and de-
pending on them they provide different.
As a technology I focused on the Academic library as a fo-
cus technology and main design building, the library acts as a
transition from public to private facilities within the existing
school Lewis Carroll to the public space. The building acts
as a manmade part of hill that connects the landscape to its
surrounding giving the building a smooth presence in the con-
trast between city and landscape.
