Development Bank are resisting calls by Saudi Telecom (STC)
to restructure a loan that could potentially leave them with

QNB Group: UAE real GDP to slow down to 4% in 2013 and
3.8% in 2014 – According to a report released by the QNB
Group, the UAE’s real economy (inflation-adjusted) is forecasted
to slow down to 4% in 2013 and to 3.8% in 2014, even as
inflation is expected to remain “moderate” over the medium-
term. The QNB Group said the recovery in the UAE’s non-oil
sector would be offset by a deceleration in the hydrocarbon
segment. Oil production is expected to remain slow on account
of delays in issuing contracts and uncertainty over the 2014
expiration of the 35-year concession on Abu Dhabi’s onshore oil
fields. The QNB Group also stated that lower oil revenues will
also lead to a narrowing of the national fiscal surplus to 5% in
2013 and 3.5% of GDP in 2014. Further, it added that the
current account surplus is expected to narrow slightly in 2013-14
(to an average 14.7% of GDP), owing to lower oil prices and
import growth, linked to rising domestic demand. Moreover, the
QNB Group forecasted oil prices to fall to $97 a barrel in 2014
4. Page 4 of 5
as a result of which the nominal GDP growth will average just
2.9%, bringing the total GDP to $407bn in 2014. Non-oil revenue
is expected to pick up slightly, mainly due to higher tax and fee
receipts in Dubai as its economy gathers pace. (Gulf-
