US meat production increased 1.2% in August compared to the previous year, led by a 5.7% rise in pork production. However, total pork exports in August declined 3% as shipments to major Asian markets like China/Hong Kong fell sharply. Beef exports also decreased 15% across many markets due to high US beef prices. Broiler chicken exports declined 6% in August compared to August 2011. Overall, higher pork and poultry output was offset by lower beef and broiler production, resulting in a small overall gain in combined meat production for the reported month.
