1. Open existing file (PM_01_United Carbonations.ac).
2. Go to ‘Trial Balance.’ Notice account balances are in the column named
‘Final 12/31/2013’.
3. Select ‘Year End Close’ from the ‘Engagement’ menu. Select location:
Desktop/CaseWare exercise.
4. Name: ‘United Carbonations 20X4’. Keep all other settings unchanged
and click ‘OK’.

5. Navigate to ‘Trial Balance.’ Notice that there is now a 31/12/2014 column
with zero balances. Navigate to ‘Assign mapping Numbers’ to see that
the mapping rolled forward.
6. Import PM_02_United Carbonations 20X4.
- Label the column with the balances ‘current year – opening balance’.
- Refer to QRC_Creating a CaseWare File for reference.
7. Notice that the 2014 column is now filled in with the 20X4 account
balances. Navigate to ‘Assign mapping Numbers’ to view mapping.

1. Click ‘Copy Template’ in ‘File’ menu.
2. Navigate to the ‘United Carbonations 20X3’ file from the last exercise
under the ‘Copy From’ section.
3. Choose where to save the new template and name the template file
under the ‘Copy To’ section.
4. Tick ‘Accounts Balances’ under ‘Clear’. Click ‘OK’.
5. Input the client’s name ‘Fizland’ ; click ‘OK’ in ‘Engagement Properties’.
6. Navigate to ‘Trial Balance’ and notice there are now zero balances.
Navigate to ‘Assign mapping numbers’ to see that the mapping still exists.

6. Close the current CaseWare file, re-open CaseWare, and select ‘Create
a new file’. Name the file ‘Fizland 20X3’ and browse to where you want
to save it.
7. Right-click on the white space in the ‘Base New File On’ box, select
‘Add Template’ and navigate to your ‘Refreshment Group Template’.
8. Click on the new icon that named ‘Refreshment Group Template’.
9. Confirm ‘Yearly’ under the Reporting Dates tab and fill in the client name
‘Fizland’ under the Name/Address Tab.

Additional accounts not present in the template file need to
be mapped.
Templates save you time as you do not need to map all the
accounts for each component in a group.
The chart of accounts for an operating entity may be more
efficient to map than the parent company’s trial balance.
The component trial balance with the most accounts, is
more efficient to map when creating up the template file.
