individuals with Alzheimer’s and other related behavioral diseases. Responsibilities
include management and coordination of all staff within the memory care unit; evaluating
clinical service functions to provide optimum care for each resident within the Lourdes
Center. Emphasis has been on developing partnerships with families and creating tailored
resident care profiles which promotes optimum care for each resident. Participates in
weekly rounds with physicians, weekly behavioral rounds, has designed and implemented
dementia training programs, facility based and community training initiatives, co-leads

part of the regular wellness check-up. The screening is non-invasive, consists of a series
of questions and tasks, and takes five to ten minutes to administer. This practice
emphasize that memory screenings are used as an indicator of whether a person might
benefit from an extensive medical exam, the screening does not diagnose illness.

In response to concerns about the diversity of existing special care units, the lack of
standards to assist families, nursing home surveyors, and others in evaluating the units.
The Alzheimer’s Association with public and private organizations have developed
guidelines for special care units. This seminar meets the state regulation for education
standards for special care units.
Alternatives to Psychotropics~February 2015
Appropriate use of psychotropic drugs has long been a concern in dealing with behavioral
disturbance with the dementia population. This continuing education program highlighted
alternative treatment options to psychotropic medications, including comparative
indications, efficacy, and safety; and by enhancing psychosocial care, and demonstrating
that the person centered approach is a viable alternative to behavioral problems.

Alzheimer’s disease seminar for professional caregivers. Compassion amid the confusion
a principle conference geared toward individuals with early dementia, families and
professionals. The conference a collaboration between medical personnel and caregivers,
suffering from the devastating disorder of Alzheimer’s disease. This collaboration has
worked together to create a day designed to inform, and support persons with dementia.
Each year leading presenters come together to ensure the most innovative conference in
dementia care for 100 participants, sponsors and exhibitors.
When Should Dementia Patients Stop Driving May 2015
Presented at Maplewood at Mayflower Place-Continuing Care Retirement Community
located on Cape Cod. Presenting on “Dementia and Driving” or “When should Dementia
Patients Stop Driving” to the area community. This presentation covered the need for
intervention, understanding decline due to disease process, understanding degenerative
changes, knowing when to initiate clinical evaluation and the role of the physician with
physicians.
Leading Practices in Dementia Care
Submitted breakout session proposal to the 2016 Leading age Massachusetts Annual
Conference. The intent of this training series is to provide the learner a general
understanding of person centered care, while providing active involvement in the design
of new care models and individualized options for treatment. The training will
incorporate the philosophies provided by the institute of Medicine defining person
centered care as “as “respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences,
needs, values that guide all clinical decisions.

OMICS International Conferences. Abstracted accepted by the committee, “Managing
Behavioral disturbance with the Dementia Client through Person Centered Care Model”.
The abstract intended to increase awareness and understanding about person-centered
care for people with dementia. Discusses the complex needs of people with dementia
leading to compromised behaviors. Discussion includes sleep-wake-cycle disturbance,
verbal outburst and aggression; further discussion encompasses evidenced based
outcomes with the use of person centered care that focuses on preserving the
“personhood” of the individual with dementia.
