Emanuil Videnov is a graduate structural engineer currently working for CAPITA Property and Infrastructure in East Grinstead, United Kingdom. He has experience assessing bridges and reinforced concrete structures, as well as producing scope books for infrastructure projects. Prior to his current role, Videnov held internships in Bulgaria focusing on geotechnical engineering, road construction, and building construction. He received his MEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2015.

Projects
Assessment of a skew bridge
Assessment of a skew bridge which originally has had four spans. Following a deterioration
of a middle pier the structural behaviour changes to that of a three-span bridge. Assessment
involved FE modeling of the bridge deck, utilising both linear and non-linear analysis. A check
against estimated original reactions within the foundations has been made and the effects of
occurring uplift at abutments have been assessed.
Bus parking platform - secondary beams check
A capacity check of reinforced concrete cross beams supporting a concrete slab. Calculations
included complex loading scenarios due to presence of 12 notional lanes onto the deck. Finite
element analysis (LUSAS) has been implemented to ease determination of worst loading cases
and establishing action envelopes. More than 100 load cases have been considered. An iterative
method has been applied to ensure design optimisation and eliminate excessive conservatism
within the section selection/capacity.
Category 2 check of reinforced concrete flood walls
A full category 2 check of a series of walls having different design requirements either design
against road vehicle impact, wind and flooding or against flood loadings, has been performed
by Emanuil under supervision. The design has been check against Eurocode and Crossrail
specific prescriptions. The walls were to be installed and connected onto an existing tunnel slab
and capping beam, as well as providing extension to existing flood walls. Design evaluation
included ULS and SLS checks including early crack propagation. Main problems during
check arose as a result of the connection to the existing structure which was designed to
be a post drilled rebar plus chemical adhesive. Interfacing was required with HILTI due to
specifics of connection. As a result of the design evaluation some parameters of the connection
were changed. Design check also included review of GA, elevation, reinforcement and section
drawings. Additionally, a reinforcement check has been done for an emergency staircase.
HS2 Enabling Works Contract Workpackage Scope Books
Producing an engineering scope book showing the enabling works necessary to be under-
taken prior to main package of works. The information contained in the scope book includes
demolition, land remediation, highways, utility diversions, environmental, site clearance, con-
struction, logistics and structural works. The documents are to be used by future tenderers
as reference for the required enabling works in specific areas of the HS2 project works.
Review of Constructability reports for Employers Requirements Design
(HS2)
Emanuil was part of a team tasked to review 13 No Constructability reports produced by
another CAPITA team. The reports were to show methodology, constraints and timeframe
for each element along the HS2 project. The documents were to be helping future tenderers
for the HS2 in familiarizing themselves with the works on the project.

2. Internal design checks
A number of design checks have been performed by Emanuil at an internal level within his team.
These include: - A check of the design of a cantilevered reinforced concrete slab with
an irregular geometry under rail traffic and plant loading. Only ultimate limit state
check has been undertaken. The design included the usage of a finite element soft-
ware due to the complexity of geometry and the slab being statically undetermined.
- A check of the design of an underground shaft subjected to ground loading and surcharge.

Intern, Geotechmin OOD, Sofia, Bulgaria, Full Time
An intern on the construction site of a new Subway station and 200m of connecting tunnels.
Part of Earth works team managing earthworks on site excavations, plant management, etc.
The work included communication with partnering companies dealing with construction,
isolation, etc. of the structures. Dealing with tight schedules and space restrictions on
site was also required. Emanuil was tasked with occasional management of small teams of
workers. The project has been evaluated at č15million.
Jun 2012 -
Jul 2012
Intern, Trace Roads LTD., Sofia, Bulgaria, Part Time
Observed and was taught the process of repair works and full reconstruction of road in-
frastructure. Shadowing field engineers and project managers on a wide variety of projects
from minor works (e.g. pothole fixing) to large-scale works like a 60km, class-one road
reconstruction.
Jun 2011 Intern, NIKMI Jsc, Sofia, Bulgaria, Full Time
Observing on-site work of a major high-rise construction project and getting familiar with
the engineering designs. Shadowing engineers and project manager on their day-to-day work
on a three-part multi-purpose building (administrative, hotel, private apartments sections).
Learning to read and extract information from technical reports, general arrangement and
reinforcement drawings.
