Since 2012 President of the medical committee of Paris-Sud University hospitals. The Paris-Sud

neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery and gastrointestinal surgery.

More and more evidence suggests that low levels of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are
critical for healthy cellular function. My research project was to test whether mitochondrial
release of ROS has evolved as a method of communication between mitochondrial function and
other cellular processes as cellular adaptation of cells to hypoxia.

My research focuses on:
• Assessment of tissue perfusion and oxygenation in critically ill patients (especially brain and
kidney).
• Management of trauma patients.
• Management of brain injured patients
I have a number of ongoing translational research programs in these areas, involving collaborative
partnerships throughout France and Europe.
In my laboratory (Unité INSERM U-942 (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale)), we
have developed animals models of trauma brain injury, hemorrhagic and septic shock with powerful
means for analysing tissue oxygenation.
