About data
•Data taken from "Our World in Data".
Data is compiled by Our World in Data based on two sources:
– BP Statistical Review of World Energy: https://www.bp.com/en/global/corporate/energy-economics/statistical-review-of-world-energy.html
– Ember: https://ember-climate.org/data/
We rely on electricity mix data from BP as our primary source for two key reasons: BP also provides total energy (not just electricity) consumption data, meaning energy and electricity data is
consistent from the same source; and it provides a longer time-series (dating back to 1965) versus only 2000 from Ember.
However, BP does not provide data for all countries. So, where data from BP is available for a given country or year, we rely on it as the primary source. But we supplement this with data from Ember
where it's not available.
Our World in Data has converted absolute electricity production by source to the share in the mix by dividing each by the total electricity production.
1. Overview
1. Overview
Around the world have over 230TWhelectricity was produced from coal, but from Wind, Solar and other renewables not over 10TWh
2. Percentage of using energy source
Developing country have many source of energy, Europe and North America have 20% of electricity was produced from Nuclear, meanwhile developing country have to depend
on hydro and coal, in Africa, Asia and South and central America the percentage of using those source always larger than 50%
Mid East is area where gas and oil were used more than 90%
3. Percentage of using Oil source
Asian countries still rely on Fossil fuel to produce electricity.
More than 50% of electricity from Oil compare with whole world
Asia Pacific : 12597.45TWh
and Mid East : 7787.65TWH
4. Number of using Nuclear source
We can see the most of country where used the nuclear power is from Europe , especially leading by American with
25810.02TWh, the power lager than all total electricity by Asian country using Oil
5. The world trending
But the world’s trending to using renewable energy have just started
From 2018 the amount of electricity from coal was decrease meanwhile the increasing of solar and other renewable
energy
Even the amount of using those source of energy is still very large. Especial from developed country. For
example
US use more than 50k Twh electricity from Coal, 25k Twh electricity from Gas, 5k Twh electricity from Oil
5. The world trending (cont)
But the energy from Solar ad other reviewable source is
nonstop growing
Solar power currently is 34.62 % compare with total renewable
source (36k TWh)
Its still very small number compare with
Oil : 136K or Gas : 394K or Coal : 745K
5. The world trending (cont)
