ABSTRACT
Calendula arvensis(C.A.) is one of the herbs used in traditional medicine in Morocco , Due to its essential oil it is
recognized by its smell and warmth characteristic .This work aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity ofC.A.
flower extracts , Hexanolic and methanolic extracts were obtained by the method of soxhlet , while aqueous extract
was obtained by maceration in cold water. Antibacterial activity screening was conducted by the well diffusion
method according to the clinical and laboratory standard institute guidelines using 6 Gram positive and 7 Gram
4. negative bacteria (sensitive and multidrug-resistant) .The results indicated that ,the methanolic extracts of C.A.
flowers generally showed high inhibitory activity against Gram-positive and Gram negative bacteria except
Acinetobacterbaumanii , Proteusmirabilis and Listeria monocytogenes,The C.A. flowers hexanolic extract
inhibited all bacteria of Gram-positive and Gram negative bacteria except,Staphylococcus aureus
MRSA,Streptococcusagalactiae and Acinetobacter baumanii ,There were no inhibitory effects of the aqueous
extracts against all tested bacterial strainsexcept Rhodococcuss equi and Morganella morganii,MICs valuesof
methanolic extractswere between 12.5-25μg/ml . while MICs of values of hexanolic extracts were between 6.25-12.5
μg/ml . In conclusion the obtained resultsshow an antibacterial potency oforganic extracts of C.A. flowers. C.A.
flowers Hexanolic extractswere bactericidal for most bacteria while methanolic extracts were bacteriostatic .

ABSTRACT
Numerous studies have been focused on natural anticarcinogenic agents. Many antioxidants have been identified as
anticarcinogens. Antimutagens have also been proposed as cancer chemopreventive agents. The use of natural products as
anticancer has a long history that began with traditional medicine. The present study is aimed to investigate the phytochemical
content, the antioxidants properties and the effects of extracts of Calendula arvensis (C.A.) flowers on the growth of cancer cells
of myeloid cell .The different solvent extracts (Methanol, Hexanol and Water) were assessed for phenolic and flavonoid
content.Their cytotoxicity using MTT [3-(4, 5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium] bioassay.These cells were
cultured in MEC (Minimum Essential Communications) medium and incubated with the serial dilutions of extract (2–0.00093
mg/ml) in CO2 incubator at 37°C for 48 h,The results indicated that , Methanolic and aqueous extract exhibited maximum
antimyeloid cancer activity having IC50 (the concentration of an individual compound leading to 50% inhibition) value 31
µg/ml against myeloid cell line. Significant percentage of inhibition (90%) in the Methanol and aqueous extract of C.A. flowers
at 48 h of exposure and concentration 50 mg/ml (p < 0.034 ) against acute myeloid leukemia cells, indicates the presence of some
structural moiety responsible for this observed antiproliferative effect. In vivo study and structural elucidation of its bioactive
principle are in progress. Our findings highlight the potential of this plant for its possible clinical use to counteract malignancy
development as antimyeloid cell cancer bioagent .

ABSTRACT
Essential oils and extracts obtained from many plants have recently gained a great popularity and scientific interest. The plants
has been reported to have antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic and antidermatophytic properties. It is now considered
as a valuable source of natural products for development of medicines against various diseases and also for the development of
industrial products ,Oils of Syzygium aromaticum, Eucalyptus rossi ,Rosaminus officinalis , Thymus vulgaris and extracts of
hexanolic , methanolic and aqueous of Calendula arvensis flower’s were screened for their activity against 6 species of
Candida spp namely Candida tropicalis (2), Candida famata (2) and Candida glabrata (2),by
well diffusion method. The results showed that the maximum antimycotic activity was demonstrated by oils of Thymus vulgaris
,Rosaminus officinalis, Eucalyptus rossi and Syzygium aromaticum ,while the extracts of Calendula arvensis exhibited no
activity on these species except methanolic extracts showed activity on Candida tropicalis spp1 and Candida
famata spp1.These results support theplant oils which can be used to cure mycotic infections and plant oils may have role as
pharmaceutical and preservatives.
