Counseling Two counselors are on staff at SSM- Mrs. Kincaid and Mr. Keogh Mrs. Kincaid will have classroom visits  bi-monthly with grades K, 1st, 3rd, and 4 th . Mr. Keogh also will visit bi-monthly with grades 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7 th . 8th grade students will be visited periodically during the year by both counselors.
Some issues we will be discussing in the classrooms:  Drug prevention          Health maintenance Anti-bullying strategies Safety/stranger danger Friendship issues  Fear/anxiety                          Leadership skills  Self-control/self–esteem Anger management tools   Social skills Discrimination/prejudices Stress      The counselors are also available for individual and small group counseling with students. We also welcome visiting with parents for any issues your child might have.

Music- Mrs. Smith K-2 This music program is age-appropriate and sequential.  Over the course of the school year, the following skills are learned, reinforced, and expanded upon with more complexity over time.  Although each weekly lesson has a main focus with clear objectives; elements from most, if not all, of the categories are touched upon each time.  Therefore, this is the general list that includes the material that K-2 students at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School will study.  Students are assessed during each music class by teacher observation.  #1 Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. #2 Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. #3 Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments #4 Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines #5 Reading and notating music #6 Listening to, analyzing, and describing music #7 Evaluating music and music performances #8 Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts #9 Understanding music in relation to history and culture #10 Understanding music in relationship to spirituality, prayer, and Catholic values Each class meets twice a week for 30 minutes Please visit my website
Music 3-8 Miss Kruger Music 3-8 is a continuation of the K-2 music program. General and vocal music will be explored according to curriculum standards that increase a students interaction, understanding of, and the performance level of music each year. GOAL : The primary goal of physical education is to assist each student in the development of attitudes, skills, and knowledge of human movement that will result in a lifetime of in physical activity Reminders :  Bring shorts and an appropriate t-shirt to class (grades 6-8). All students must wear tennis shoes to class. Technology K- 5 Computer class is based almost exclusively on projects.  This gives students the opportunity to practice technology skills in a more realistic setting.  In grades k-3 this involves a lot of play.  In 4th and 5th the projects are more structured Five Important Points All students need to have headphones, 5th graders need a flash drive with a minimum of 2 gig of space K-3 has one 30 minute class a week, 4th and 5th have two 30 minute classes a week Typing is formally taught in 4th grade (after this your student is expected to type their own papers) Computer class is not the only time your students use their technology skills- We have two traveling labs that go to classrooms as well The Archdiocese has just updated the technology standards. Technology- Middle School Computer class is based almost exclusively on project work.  This gives the students the opportunity to practice technology skills as well as improve their project management skills.  The projects canvas a wide array of software and focuses on choosing the best tools as well as choosing work flow. Five Important Points All students need a flash drive and a set of headphones  The students see me twice a week for a total of 60 minutes of instruction Skills covered: word processing, spreadsheets, creating presentations, video editing, photo editing, animation, using the internet, file management, etc. These skills are also covered when teachers use the traveling computer labs The Archdiocese has just updated the technology standards.
