F. Curriculum and
Instruction
K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum
The following are the standards that
teachers should know and do in order
to fulfill their roles as curriculum and
instructional leaders in their own
schools:
Knowledge of various curriculum
models and programs that are
developmentally appropriate for the
learners.

Pedagogy is simply defined as the science and art of teaching young
learners.
It includes large repertoire of teaching methods, instructional strategies, teaching
approaches, and teaching techniques.
Teachers are curriculum and
instructional leaders.
Possessing high level of pedagogical knowledge can bring the spark of the magic of learning inside the
classroom.
Teachers should know different instructional planning models that consider the unique characteristics and
needs of young children from the various cultures and socio-economic background.
With the implementation of the K-12 Curriculum, teachers need to know how to utilize the
desired pedagogical approaches for the implementation of the new curriculum.
Some of these pedagogical approaches are the constructivist teaching approaches, ICT
integration, integrative teaching and learning, learner-centered strategies, and
standards-based teaching and learning approaches.
In the field of education, technology is making all information accessible for the
teachers and learners.
Technology is an important tool for teaching and learning.
It is important that teachers should be technologically literate and can integrate
technology in their teaching and learning.
A lot of people share common sentiment that all teachers, especially those who are in
local communities, should be creative and be problem-solvers.
o Teachers should know how to manage their classrooms. Classroom management is now one of
the major concerns of public and private school teachers.
o Classroom rules should be established and a system for rewarding positive behavior should be
developed and implemented.
o Since teachers are not supposed to use corporal punishment in disciplining learners, an efficient
handling learners’ unwanted behavior inside the class should be developed.
It is also important for teachers to develop “caring attitude” in dealing with the learners especially
with young children. Hence, it is imperative that teachers should possess loving attitude to all types of
learners.
“It is what teachers think, what teachers do, and what
teachers are at the level of the classroom that ultimately
shapes the kind of learning that young people get”.
Andy Hargreaves and Michael Fullan

Editor's Notes

  1. Curriculum and Instruction Curriculum is basically “what” is taught while instruction is “how” this what is taught. Curriculum may be regarded as a program, plan, a sequence of courses, learning experienceswhereas the instruction suggest the methods, implementation and presentation of what is inthe curriculum (Olive, 2009). Johnson (as cited in Olive, 2009) defines the instruction as theinteraction between someone who does the teaching job and the one or ones whose aim is tolearn while the curriculum is more related to the planning of the educational programs forschooling.

Curriculum may be regarded as a program, plan, a sequence of courses, learning experienceswhereas the instruction suggest the methods, implementation and presentation of what is inthe curriculum (Olive, 2009). Johnson (as cited in Olive, 2009) defines the instruction as the interaction between someone who does the teaching job and the one or ones whose aim is tolearn while the curriculum is more related to the planning of the educational programs forschooling.
  5. Teachers plan for the implementation of curriculum. Therefore it is important that teachers know how to teach different subjects. According gani sa K to 12 Framework, the main goal of it is to make children to be HOLISTICALLY DEVELOPED WITH 21st CENTURY SKILLS. Teachers must not just focus on the effective communication skills of a child or ang subject nga English but also must also know the different areas or subjects.
  6. It is important that the teacher select teaching methods and learning activities, and instructional materials or resources nga appropriate man sa iya giantudluan kag sa ginatudlo nya. Constructivist Approach – we construct meaning based on prior knowledge and experience. In CONSTRUCTIVIST APPROACH, it is important that we know as teachers (in the future) , where our students are coming from but NOT to judge them , but be able to provide the suitable learning environment for them to discover what needed to be learned and un-learned. Integrative Teaching and Learning – it is the THEMATIC TEACHING or theme that helps students to see the meaningful connections across disciplines and learning.
  7. 0. Technology is shaping many things in the society even people’s values. So ang technology have a big impact sa tawo, if ma notice nyo nu sa mga kabataan even sa atun, if naka gadget nata, ga ML man o ga fb or ga twitter , insta, kung suguon ta satun parents nga muni muto, gapaingit ta. 2.It makes life easier kay accessible na ang data and information needed mo . Itype mo lang kag icick ara na ang result unlike kung makadto ka sa library need mo pa isaisahon ang mga books para Makita mo ang related info. 3. So diri na gasulod ang use of technologies as a tool in teaching, use of laptop, projector, tv, powerpoint presentation, video presentation that can help teachers to catch the attention of their learners.
  8. Teachers should know how to improvise or develop local materials for instruction since many schools do not have enough facilities and instructional materials especially those in local communities, inang sa mga bukid bala o malayo na sa sibilisasyon, so the teachers must be creative sa kung ano lang ang availbale nga material instruction nga pwedi nya gamiton. Because INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS / EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES are important to improve student’s knowledge , abilities, and skills, o monitor their assimilation of information , and to contribute to their overall development and upbringing.
  9. This means that teachers should be able to understand learners’ behavior and how to manage it. It is important for the teachers to plan on how to handle learners’ behavior and characteristics. Corporal Punishment – There is a need to for teachers to develop positive attitudes in handling young children. Teachers just not teach the content but they help to develop positive self-esteem and self concept. Teachers are also building relationship inside the classroom with him or her students.
  10. So kung ano iya ginapanumdom, muna man iya ginaubra and it is the aspect that shaping the kind of learning nga nakukuha sang iya mga students. So kung ano ka nga teacher ga reflect man ina s imo mga students that’s why students are product of teachers.
