WORK EXPERIENCE
Nurse Case Manager at JCCA (Brooklyn, NY April 2014 through August 2015) – I worked with a caseload of
between 50 and 65 foster children and teens with special Psychiatric and Therapeutic needs. Requirements for this
included working closely with our Pediatrician’s for bi-annual physicals, yearly dental, keeping close records of their
development, vaccination needs, and teaching foster parent classes related to Mental Health and Sexual Health.
Specialized medical referrals were arranged by me through various NYC hospitals. I worked closely with the foster
parents, biological parents, various Social Work team members and medical team to monitor the functioning of these
teens as they tried to overcome various past traumas and prepare them for adulthood.
Waiver Service Provider at JCCA (New York City, NY Dec. 2013 through July 2014) – Position involves working
with medically-fragile, serious emotional disturbance and developmentally disabled youth in the NYC Foster Care
system. Job involves Planned Respite Services, Skill building and Child/Parent education. Knowledge of specific disease
processes, as well as behavioral stressors and coping mechanisms for the children I work with is a must to prevent
complications and teach caregivers when appropriate to help the child thrive. Coordinating work among the Health Care
team, and understanding the various work functions involved in a single patient’s care is critical.
General Reporter, Contributing Copy Editor at The Oakland Press (Pontiac, MI - 2001 through 2005) –
Professional Reporter at highly-circulated daily newspaper, working equal time in the office and on assignment.
Developed excellent communication and interviewing skills, layout, design and became well-versed with various
computer software platforms. Familiar with deadline pressure, the inter-office functions and work-environment factors
required of a successful, fast-paced industry.
