Why is focus a problem on teams?
The focus problem very often comes up when companies or teams are not doing well and do not know how to become successful again. They try to fix it via working more and harder. They are only reacting without stopping to analyze the problem. The thought is that there are a lot of things to do and then everything will be just like before. They don't understand that doing the same things does not help in getting new results. If teams and companies want to reach a new goal, they must act differently than before. And for that, a lot of time for preparation, analysis and creativity is necessary, but this extra preparation time is often not taken because everyone wants to reach the new goals quickly and without making any real changes.

Test Your Innovation IQ
Holly Green, Contributor
Original Source
Everyone knows that innovation means coming up with the next great idea in your
industry, right? Actually, there’s a lot more to it than that. Test your ability to separate
innovation fact from fiction by answering the following questions true or false:
1. Innovation is the act of coming up with new and creative ideas.
2. Innovation is a random process.
3. Innovation is the exclusive realm of a few naturally talented people.
4. The biggest obstacle to innovation is a lack of organizational resources and
know-how.
5. The most important type of innovation involves bringing new products and
services to market.
6. Teaching employees to think creatively will guarantee innovation.
7. The most powerful way to trigger your brain is to simply ask it a question.
8. Most companies pursue incremental rather than disruptive innovation.
9. Most companies are not structured to innovate.
10. Listening to your customers is a great way to innovate.
Answers:
1. False. In business, innovation is the act of applying knowledge, new or old, to the
creation of new processes, products, and services that have value for at least one of
your stakeholder groups. The key word here is applying. Generating creative ideas is
certainly part of the process. But in order to produce true innovation, you have to
actually do something different that has value.
2. False. Innovation is a discipline that can (and should) be planned, measured, and
managed. If left to chance, it won’t happen.
3. False. Everyone has the power to innovate by letting their brain wander, explore,
connect, and see the world differently. The problem is that we’re all running so fast that
we fail to make time for the activities that allow our brains to see patterns and make
connections. Such as pausing and wondering….what if?
4. False. In most organizations, the biggest obstacle to innovation is what people
already know to be true about their customers, markets, and business. Whenever you’re
absolutely, positively sure you’re right, any chance at meaningful innovation goes out
the window.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/work-in-progress/2011/12/06/test-your-innovation-iq/#3133e7f0395b
5. False. It’s certainly important to bring new products and services to market. But the
most important form of innovation, and the #1 challenge for today’s business leaders
may really be reinventing the way we manage ourselves and our companies.
6. False. New ideas are a dime a dozen. The hard part is turning those ideas into new
products and services that customers value and are willing to pay for -- a process that
requires knowledge about what your customers want and need, coupled with
implementation.
7. True. Ask a question and the brain responds instinctually to get closure. The key with
innovation is to ask questions that open people to possibilities, new ways of looking at
the same data, and new interpre.

We introduce Clarity and Accelerator Programme under the name of "Scaleezee" to successfully scale up or exit your business
Much of the time, we view innovation through a lens of total newness, but teachings from a variety of industries and professions might hold the key to defining successful strategies, and positively influence the way innovation is executed in the enterprise space.
The most in-demand skill in today’s business is creativity. In general, creativity is a thing done that is outside of common boundaries or expectations. It is achieved when teams are agile but face problems, discomfort, and tension. In business creativity and design are the most paired duo. When it comes to agile creativity and designs go hand in hand as agile started with software development and any development requires creativity.
Incremental innovations are good enoughRajagopalan V
Incremental innovations can be a forte of any company as long as they have the culture to be innovative. Disruptive innovations happen once in a while and few companies evolve out of them. But doing continuous improvement, and having a process to take ideas to realize products is essential for any company to stay alive.

Thanks to the digital revolution, the average company’s geographic reach has expanded to the point that many of your key constituents will rarely, if ever, meet face to face. You know innovation is important, but are you doing enough
to help your team innovate?
Let’s take a look at seven tips that will help you foster innovation.
20% 12%
A 2013 survey conducted by
Accenture found that
only 20% of respondents felt
that their company supported
employees who wanted to try
something new. Even more
discouraging, only 12% felt
tolerance from management
if a new idea failed.
An environment like that is
not one that encourages new
and innovative thinking.
So how do you set up a
process that helps your team
innovate?

Develop a Plan.
1
Don’t just launch headlong into a new project without first considering
what your goal is and how you want to get there.
If you end up straying from your plan—and you probably will—that’s okay!
Developing a plan gives you a starting place. Without
doing that, you’ll waste time at the beginning of
your project figuring out what you’re doing.
Also, having a clearly stated plan allows you
to provide transparency to everyone involved
in the project. If people
understand how your project
is being run, they are more
likely to feel engaged and
invested in
the project.
4. www.cureo.com
Focus on Your Customers.
2
Ask yourself what your team does to serve your customers. Your
answer shouldn’t just be “we make widgets.”
Staying focused on your customers and how you can serve them better should be a catalyst
for innovation.
What problem do your widgets solve for your customers?
Does your team have the skills to solve that problem in a better or new way?
Can your team apply its skills to solve related problems for your customers?
5. www.cureo.com
Failure isn’t something you’re typically told to seek out in the business
world, but if you want to develop new ideas and processes you will
experience failures along the way.
Learn from your failures and show your team that
failure isn’t always a bad thing.
Instead of only praising members of your team
that experience success, show appreciation
and praise for team members who developed
innovative and new ideas. Reward
effort and new ideas—not just results.
Embrace Failure.
3
6. www.cureo.com
Think Broadly.
To turn a group of people into a
business, there needs to be some
kind of organization.
Your business is probably broken up into
different departments and teams. Without this,
it’d be hard to get everyone coordinated
and on the same page.
While getting stuck in silos would be easy,
you have a lot to gain by looking for
opportunities for partnership outside of the
groups you typically may work with. Fresh
working connections can often lead to
fresh ideas. Seek out collaboration
opportunities with other teams and
departments to innovate. Working with other
teams may result in helping both sides think
about ideas in new, innovative ideas.
4
7. www.cureo.com
5
You shouldn’t place too much value on reaching a consensus because
the answer that pleases everyone often takes longer to get to—and
more importantly—probably isn’t taking any chances.
If you want to truly innovate and come up with a new idea, it’s likely that there will be people
on your team who disagree with part of what you are doing.
Although it takes longer, consensus seeking can be more comfortable because you can try to
make everyone happy. As a leader, though, it is your job to steer the group toward new ideas
and manage disagreements between group members.
Be Wary of Consensus Seeking.
8. www.cureo.com
Actively Seek Input.
Extroverts often find it easy to speak their mind
in front of a group while introverts may not.
Make sure to give easy opportunities for everyone on your team
to contribute to the discussion. People who are more naturally
introverted may not fully understand the value that their
contribution can have to the team.
When you hold meetings or facilitate collaborative discussions
online, do your best to bring everyone into the conversation to
help make sure that your team can benefit from everyone’s point
of view.
6
TIPS TO GET
EVERYONEINVOLVED
• Pay attention to who isn’t
speaking—not just who is.
• Watch body language to
see if it looks like
someone is heavily
engaged, but quiet.
• If a small group of people
are dominating the
conversation, ask other
members of their group for
their opinions.
9. www.cureo.com
Use the Right Tools.
7
Although it might seem counterintuitive,
implementing the right structure and
systems will improve your team’s
ability to be flexible and innovate.
Depending on your industry, there may or
may not be ready-made innovation processes
to follow. If you are a manufacturer, for
example, you might choose to use a tool such as
Stage–Gate®
to help you define your innovation
process. If you are in marketing or professional
services you may choose something else.
Regardless of what industry you are in, the
important thing is that you need a system
—and you need the tools to support it to keep
the system running smoothly.
