After the heroism, collaboration: Organizational learning and the mobile space

A presentation given with my colleague and co-author Stephanie Pau on April 16, 2009 at Museums & the Web in Indianapolis. It starts out with a report of inter-departmental collaboration around interpretation planning for exhibitions at SFMOMA and then focuses on mobile technologies, including the results of two evaluations indicating visitor preferences. Finally, we outline future directions for mobile multimedia development at SFMOMA.

Workshop for the Massachusetts Poetry Festival 2015. Session description: Artworks speak to poets--but do these works speak to each other as well? How does the proximity of one work to another inspire new ideas and connections that one piece alone does not? In this workshop, we explore unusual pairings in current exhibitions at the Peabody Essex Museum and discuss the ways curators, like poets, use juxtaposition to evoke surprise and curiosity. We also practice close-looking strategies which then inform our poetry writing practice. Writers and art-lovers of all levels of experience welcome: just bring your eyes and your imagination, (and possibly your favorite writing implement), we'll provide the rest!

When a group of young people affected by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires were asked to tell their stories for an exhibition at the Victoria Police Museum it created an organic process of healing for both them and their families that was unexpected and deeply meaningful. This slide presentation was presented in conjunction with the paper, by the same title at the 2014 Victorian Museums & Galleries Conference held in Warrnambool, (Victoria, Australia).
