This document presents a model of cultural identity based on Berry's work from 2003. It shows four categories of cultural identity orientation: separation, assimilation, integration, and marginalization. Separation involves a strong orientation toward one's country of origin, while assimilation involves a strong U.S. orientation. Integration is a bicultural orientation that incorporates both one's country of origin and U.S. culture. Marginalization reflects a lack of identification with either culture.
