Changing the Major, Minor
and the Academic Pathway
 It is possible to change the Major to one of the Minor disciplines in which
minimum two course are already attended by the student in the first two
semesters, earning minimum 8 credits.
 Change of Major is not possible to a discipline in which one or more general
foundation courses only are attended by the student in the first two semesters.
 When a student changes the Major to one of the disciplines in which he/she has
earned minimum 8 credits as Minor, the credits acquired by the student by these
courses will be transferred to the total credits required for the new Major.
University of Calicut | CU-FYUGP | Curriculum Framework 20
Changing the Major, Minor
and the Academic Pathway
 In each discipline additional seats equal to 10% of the sum of the sanctioned
strength and marginal increase may be created to accommodate the students
seeking a change of Major. In addition, any unfilled or vacant seats after the close
of admission may be filled with those seeking a change of Major.
 The total number of students after switching should remain within the statutory
limit of that discipline.
 The ranking of the applicants for the switching of Major shall be in the order of
the highest marks secured in the discipline to which the switching of Major is
sought, by considering the total marks scored in the first and second semesters
together. University of Calicut | CU-FYUGP | Curriculum Framework 21
