Geography

•Cuba is an island located in the Caribbean sea, north of the profound
Atlantic ocean and east of the gulf of Mexico. Although there are
several little islands around, Cuba is the largest at 110,860 km
making it the 17th largest island in the world and the biggest country
by landmass in the Caribbean. The largest island outside other than
the main one is Isla de la juventad located in the southwest shore of
Cuba.

•More than 4,000 islands and cay’s are located in the surrounding sea
of Cuba.

•Cuba has a total population of 11,394,043 people .Ethnic groups
including about 65% white,10% black,1% Chinese and 25% Mullato or
Mestizo.

•The terrain is mostly flat at sea level and some mountains and
marshlands as you go inland.

•Cuba’s climate is very tropical, it has a dry season from November to
April and a strong rainy season from May to October.
•The highest point of Cuba is Pico Turquino located in the mountains of the Sierra Maestro, and the
lowest point is at sea level in the shore line to the Caribbean sea.

•The largest city in Cuba and national Capital is Havana with a total population of 2,328,00 people.

•The oldest and most historic city is Baracoa founded in the year 1511.

•The natural resources in Cuba cobalt, nickel, iron ore, copper, manganese, salt, timber,
silica,tobacco and petroleum.

•Nickel is most valued resource in Cuba, they have the most abundant supply of nickel next to
Russia.
The people

•Natives of Cuba are known as “Cubans”

•The obvious and largest population of Cubans is in Cuba
itself and the city of Havana specifically, although there is a
very large community of Cubans whom have taken refuge in
 the United states.

•There is equally as many women as there is men in Cuba,
the country is made up of 7,271,926 whites(65%) who have
ancestry from the early Spaniards who came there. The rest
of the population is made up of Mullatos,Africans, and a
 small population of Chinese.

•The Cuban’s national language is Spanish although there
few other languages among the people of Cuba.

•Since the late 50’s over a million Cuban’s have immigrated
to the United states primarily in Miami, Florida.
The Cuban people tend to make the best in everything
around them because of the political and border
restraints they endure. During the Spanish civil war
between 1936-1939 several people fled to Cuba and
weren't able to return but, as of recently Spain is
offering up to 500,000 passports to those who can
prove thee ancestry with those who fled.
Culture

 The culture of Cuba is surprisingly very broad ranging from
Spanish influence all the way to a small Chinese influence
in Cuba.

 Cuba is very different from other cultures its music an art
Can easily be recognized in today’s world.

 Most of the music and dancing is Spanish European and a
Little African. Most of the African culture influence came from
The slaves who settled on the farms many years ago.

 The Biggest instrumental contributions by the Spanish was
The guitar. They also introduced musical composition and
Musical notation.

Cuba has immensely contributed to other countries music
Everything from solely developing salsa and tango in Argentina
To the beginning forms of Jazz.
•Cuban sports are based on the influence of other countries.
Baseball is the most predominate sport in Cuba and it was
introduced by American dockworkers over a 100 years ago .
Football like many countries is not too popular but it is on its way
to gaining recognition. Although boxing still holds some
popularity in Cuba also.

•Cuban food tends to be very scarce in the past years because of
the lack of resources such as fuel for the machines to harvest food
force the people to harvest the food manually.

•Cuban literature began to thrive in the late 1890’s and is still
pretty prominate.

•Cuban dancing among women and men has changed a lot and
tends to take on a very sexual feel to it.
History

 The earliest peoples of Cuba were the Guanajatabey people who travelled very far to the large island
from the mainland forests of south America. They are said to have inhabited the area as early as 5300
BCE.
 These people were in numbers of 170,000 people and mainly were hunters and gatherers, they
survived off of mainly meat and were said to grow tobacco the largest source of economy for Cuba
  today.

 Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1492 and said he believed it to be a Asian mainland.

 In 1898 the united states assisted Cuba in gaining their independence from the country of Spain. In
1959 with the irregularities in the Cuban election the rule was overthrown by a communist revolution.
