The document discusses factors that influence social orientation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of companies in India. Political influence from special interest groups and media can shape business practices. Competitors may also encourage CSR activities when other companies engage in them. A company's resources and financial position affect their ability to contribute to social causes. Ethical decision making and a sense of moral responsibility also guide some companies' contributions to social welfare. Several major Indian companies are highlighted that contribute over 100 crores annually through CSR initiatives focused on areas like healthcare, education, livelihoods, and the environment.

business practices. This include variety of NGOs like Consumer Interest Groups, Environmentalist etc.
COMPETITORS: Social Orientation is also influenced by competitive forces. When one or some companies
socially involved other may be encouraged or provoked to do some thing.
Resources: Social involvement of companies is also affected by the financial position and other resources of the
company. It may be noted that the Tisco has been constrained to cap, albeit at family high level, its social
responsibility expenditure.
ETHICAL INFLUENCES: Another factor influencing the social orientation is the ethical decision making and self
regulation of the business conduct. Some companies find their morale responsibility to contribute for the
