Summary Of A Good Book Of Mice And Men
In A Teachable Good Book: Of Mice and Men , Thomas Scarseth, presents examples to argue why
John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men, is a good book to learn from. Even though people enjoy a
light, carefree story with a happy ending, Scarseth explains why the vulgar content of OMAM, that
would turn some readers away, is needed for the story to have meaning.
Referring to what great literature looks like, Thomas Scarseth has a decent idea. In his assessment,
Scarseth claims great writers and readers know that sour endings in literature works are sometimes
crucial. His opinions on what makes a great writer and reader makes sense because he is an English
professor at University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Because this is an essay and likely to be read by
scholars and students, it is reasonable that the author would say, But the greatest writers and the best
readers know that literature is not always only mere sugar candy; it can sometimes be a strong
medicine... , as he is either praising or insulting the readers intelligence based on their point of view
on happy endings in literature. Realistic tragedy in literature is unpleasant to the people who believe in
idealistic happy endings. Unfortunately, tragic endings are necessary for prosperous knowledge, which
is what great readers and writers gain from these literature types called Tragedy. From here, it can be
argued that Scarseth is correct about the needed bitter endings. When reading, He pulled the trigger

Analysis Of From Here To Eternity By Charon
In the book Ten Questions, Charon argues that there are crucial variables that limit the impact that an
individual can have throughout the course of one s life. In the movie From Here to Eternity, the
characters in the movie are perfect examples of an individual influencing one s life. Charon gives us
four levels of evaluation to see if the individual can make a difference in: their own lives, the lives of
those with whom they interact with, various organizations which they belong to, and in society. From
Here to Eternity, shows us many characters that may have had a difference on each other. The main

What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales
In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during this
period of time. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often
symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue. The
characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satan himself. Satan played a big role in The
Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of The Canterbury
Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as red face with big
whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book Chaucer says, There was a
Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face (Chaucer line 642). Not only that
but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is going on around him, According to the text it
says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy , then he would shout and jabber as if he s crazy
(Chaucer line 653). The Summoner would also blackmail everyone because he knew everybody s
secrets and would threaten to expose them if they didn t do what he would ask ... Show more content

always going to be there when someone need to be blessed, or needs advise, According to the text it

Smoke Signals
In Amanda J. Cobb s article titled This is What It Means to Say Smoke Signals, the author elucidates
the significance of this film by showcasing the uniqueness of its story, creators, and contemporary
representation of Native Americans in Hollywood film. Cobb brings to light the idea that this film was
not only the first film to be written and directed by Native artists, but that it was the first to exercise
the idea of self definition and cultural sovereignty (207). The paper goes on to compare Smoke
Signals to other films such as Powwow Highway (1989) as well as how its story either breaks old
stereotypes or reinforces others in an uncommonly humorous and relaxing tone. Alongside these
topics, Cobb s piece also touches on critical questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the segment put it, the movie is a classic Hollywood roadtrip/buddy cinema that uses humor to tell
a story of loss and redemption about the two main protagonists, Thomas Builds the Fire and Victor
Joseph (208). The author goes on to more clearly contend the singularity of the film in comparison to
other films such as Powwow Highway in the sense that Smoke Signals did not center around an Indian
and white conflict, but instead it focused on Victor s internal struggles with his father (210). This,
combined with the fact that Native Americans were not only in the film, but also a part of the outside,
introduced the reasons why the film had a unparalleled plot and a set of different standards to meet in
comparison to past films. As Cobb put it, the film had to find a balance in creating a film that had an
implicit political goal, while also being a relaxing American and Native cinema that appease both
audiences and was able to achieve some commercial value. According to the writer, the film was able
to achieve this in the comedic conversations between Victor and Thomas, highlighting a famous scene
of a bus that challenges the stereotypical images of the Indian warrior and medicine man (214). The
film wasn t all breaking of cliche Indian ideas. The author does highlight the argument that the film
enforces the idea of the

Tender Mercies
#8220;Tender Mercies, #8221; written by Horton Foote, is a screenplay, which presents to the reader
ordinary people, who are trying to live decently in an unpredictable and violent world. The reader
comes to be aware of many dramatic scenes where the central characters have come to experience
many complex but yet fascinating situations in their lives. Reading this screenplay the reader will
come to acknowledge one of the centralized themes in #8220;Tender Mercies, #8221; which is the
theme of redemption. For those who are unaware of the word, redemption as it applies to the

Furthermore, Sunny had gotten a father figure for himself. The reader also sees Sunny #8217;s
approval of Mac, when Sunny fights with the other kids at school when they taunted him about Mac.
When Sunny fought for Mac the reader comes to comprehend that Mac is a good person. Having a
father figure, Sunny was now able to do many things, such as playing ball with someone he was able
to refer to as #8220;dad #8221; and with someone who loved him so dearly. Being acquainted to such
a situation and how both Rosa Lee and Sunny benefited on Mac #8217;s arrival to the gas station, the
reader has come to view another act of redemption. The reader can see another act of redemption
when Mac and his daughter try to redeem their lost relationship. Even though, Mac #8217;s daughter
wanted to redeem her relationship with her father, it #8217;s important to make note that it was mainly
for the wrong reasons. One reason why it was important for Mac #8217;s daughter to redeem their
relationship was because she wanted to get approval for her seeing a man that her mother disapproved
of. Another reason was so that she can get money from her father after she runs off with her new
boyfriend because she knew that she would be unable to get money from her mother. Unfortunately,
Mac was unable to get very close to his daughter as he had in mind because his daughter had been
found dead. Although, this kind of redemption was for the wrong reasons and that it lasted for

focused on the lesson. We meet after lunch so they are usually tired and ready to go home. After, we
did that I asked them to look over their push/pull charts from the previous day. I told them to reflect on
the lesson (interactive PowerPoint) from yesterday and to think about their opinions they developed. I
gave them one to two minutes to reflect and turn and talk to their neighbor. As they talked I went
around to listen in on the pairs to make sure their conversations were on task. After the two minutes
were up I asked each pair to raise their hand if they were finished discussing their opinions. I allowed
several pairs to share their opinions. I also asked the groups to provide two reasons to support their
opinion. I restated some of their answers to make sure they were providing two reasons. I also did that
to allow other pairs to possibly learn new reasons to support their opinion. After, three pairs shared I
asked the class what is an opinion? I let two people in the class share their answer and then I restated

Archimedean Comulas Essay
2.2 Archimedean Copulas and Their Application
Archimedean copulas are an important family of copulas described by Genest and MacKay (1986 a, b)
and their applications explained in many fields such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics,
finance and insurance; for more information, see Frees and Valdez (1998), Klugman and Parsa (1999)

Chemical reactions will take place, as the energy the particles have will lead them to collide. As the
temperature rises, there are more collisions and reactions.
Concentration Has a great effect on rate of reaction
======================================================
The diagram shows that there are very few particles, indicating a weak concentration. This results in a
low chance of chemical reactions occurring.
However, if the concentration was strengthened there would be a higher chance of collision and
reaction.
This diagram shows many particles, indicating a high concentration.
This has a high chance of chemical reaction, as there is little space to move without colliding with
another particle. This causes the high chance of collision and chemical reaction, and shows that the
higher the concentration, the more chemical reactions will take place.
Collision Theory
================
The two theories I have discussed both link in with the collision theory. Ineffective Collision
There is not enough energy to bring the two particles together, so they move away and there is no
collision.

should have been expected was that Queen Elizabeth would have an impacted on the society that she
gave her name to. The one thing that wasn t expected however was the extent to which Queen
Elizabeth would influence fashion. Queen Elizabeth was passionate about fashion and she spread her
love for it through out the kingdom. One of Queen Elizabeth s talents was her ability to use any
situation to her political advantage (Boucher 17). She wanted to be seen as a person with power and
capability and she thought rich cloths would help obtain that opinion. The rich fabrics and jewels

FINAL PAPER
Justification/recommendation
Change in management is sometimes necessary in some organizations. It could be based on an
organization not performing up to standards or moving mangers around to provide a fresh look on a
company and come up with different ideas that can benefit that particular location. When changing
over, a bad plan of action can negatively affect an organization.
Due to the difficulties that arise when there is a change in management, there needs to be a effective
way for managers to adapt to their new work place. Success starts from the top and trickles down.
Employees look to their managers to guide them in the right direction.
According to 10 principles of change management :
Because change is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Explain fully the benefits
Going about it this way would really help ease in to the transition of new managers and new
employees. Changing the management team is beneficial to compaines The staff will really feel like
the new managers made and effort to get to know each job and how it is done. Since things aren t done
the same way every where, spending a day with each department will be very effective. If done
correctly all team members will be able to comminucate effectiley which will provide a smooth
transiction for the change
Discuss pros, cons, cost Some good and some bad things may come about when doing this. The good
can be seen as getting to know the members in the different departments and developing a relationship
with them by working together. A bad thing that can come from this is they may feel like it is wasted
time. Because some managers may feel like they know all the different aspects so there isn t much
new or different to learn. Another bad situation that may arise is when there is a bad seed in the group
who is unwilling to accept the new change.
According to BrighthubPM.com:
There are, however, some disadvantages to the change management methodology that has more to do
with not properly following its processes. If resistance from employees is not

The Freedom Of Rights In The First Amendment
The rights protected in the First Amendment are essential to the functioning of a free society in that
they provide the means through which the ideas outlined in the Declaration of Independence are
fulfilled. In the First Amendment, the power of Congress is limited by prohibiting the creation of laws
regarding the establishment or restriction of religion, and the abridgement of the freedom of speech, of
press, to peaceably assemble, or to petition the government. Without these fundamental rights, the
voice of minorities would be silenced and societal development would not occur. Eighteenth century
Americans considered freedom of religion to be an essential right that protected both church and state.
Many colonists came to America to escape religious persecution, and believed religion helped to
develop individual character. The establishment and free exercise clauses help develop the character of
individuals needed to maintain a free society. Moreover, freedom of speech allows people to compare
and discuss their ideas regarding ethics, politics, morals, and public issues; as English philosopher and
political economist John Stuart Mill stated, progress can occur only when all points of view can be
expressed and considered. In a free society, the policies of government are determined by the will of
the people, so the people must be well informed. Additionally, the freedom of speech, and the right to
assemble, petition, and associate guaranteed in the First Amendment are

There is a technical issue at this stage of the project that is if we convert the analog output of the
accelerometer, which ranges from 1.5 volts to 3.5 volts to a digital 8 bit output the systems become
very sensitive. Reason is division of 2 volts range into 256 (28 = 256) steps is much more sensitive
than converting 5 volts range into 256 steps. Now the question arises, why do we need a less sensitive
system, the answer if a more sensitive system is used then there is a huge change in the digital output
with the very little tilt of the hand, which is difficult to be handled.
[pic]
Fig. 3: Amplification and Attenuation Circuitry
Solution to this problem is to increase the range of the output of the accelerometer by using an
additional circuitry. This additional circuitry increases the range of the accelerometer from 2 volts
range to 5volts range. The circuitry shown in Fig.3 is used for theamplification and attenuation
purposes. Amplification means amplification of upper range i.e. 3.5 volts to the 5 volts, and the
attenuation means the attenuation of lower range i.e. 1.5 volts to 0 volts.
3.2 Tilt Detection
The basic function of this module is to detect the tilting of the hand and sending some binary data
against meaningful gestures, to the bend detection module. The output, which is obtained from the
accelerometers after amplification, is an analog output. To deal with this analog output, and to make it
useful for the further use, it is required to

The Chemical Elements Hydrogen And Oxygen
Approximately 75 percent of the Earth s surface is comprised of water. Formed by some of the tiniest
know elements that can be found, and yet water shapes and is a vital part of the biological processes
on Earth regardless on which phase of matter, namely solid, liquid, or gas, it is in. Therefore, scientists
and chemists always search for water, especially liquid water, first in other distant planets considering
that finding water on other planets is a major development in the search of life.
Water is a substance that is composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen. A molecule
consists of two hydrogen atoms, each linked by a single covalent bond to an oxygen atom. However,
only two of the six outer shell electrons of oxygen are used for this purpose, leaving four electrons
which are organized into two non bonding pairs. These pairs surrounding the oxygen have a partially
negative charge mainly through electrostatic attraction increasing its electronegativity, which tend to
arrange themselves as far from each other as possible in order to minimize repulsions. In turn, makes
the hydrogen atoms to have a partially positive charge, and therefore making the two non bonding
pairs remain closer to the oxygen atom, which exert a stronger repulsion against the two covalent
bonding pairs, effectively pushing the two hydrogen atoms closer together. This electronic structure of
water makes it possible for the molecule to bend on a special way, shown through the figure:

Representation Of Hamlet
The theatrical representation of Hamlet is one of mystery, action, character development, but most
importantly, tragedy. A considerable amount of people hold a common belief that the play, Hamlet, by
William Shakespeare is a tragedy, due to the fact that all the main characters perish at the end of the
play. An individual might take this stance on this argument upon first hearing. However, the reality of
the situation is that there are numerous parts of the play that show that this statement is not only
incorrect, but an oversimplified version of the bigger truth. Further investigation into this topic will
reveal that, in fact, the decisions the characters make throughout the duration of the play is where the
true tragedy builds up. At first, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with Ophelia s tragedy, Laertes suffers a tragedy of being deceived and used by Claudius as a
result of Hamlet s impulsive behavior as well, further assuring that the tragedy exhibits itself in the
conclusions drawn by the characters in the story. The tragedy inside Laertes that is the causation of
Hamlet s killing of Polonius is evident through the scene where Laertes confronts Claudius on why he
did not punish Hamlet for his malicious act. Claudius then goes on to trick Laertes into plotting
against Hamlet, and Laertes proclaims, And so I have a noble father lost;/A sister driven into desperate
terms/Whose worth. if praises may go back again,/Stood challenger on mount of all the age/For her
perfections. But my revenge will come (4.7.27 31.) At this moment in time, it can be seen that while
Laertes expresses his emotions of rage, he is being manipulated by Claudius, as well as how the
dramatic purpose shows character development, as the tragic outcome of being tricked like this for
personal gain stems from that of how Hamlet s actions had resulted in the loss of his father, which was
ultimately one of Hamlet s rash decisions. Upon closer look, the place where tragedy lies is not only
where all the characters die, but where the outcomes of the decisions the characters make throughout
the course of the play, such as when Hamlet commits homicide towards Polonius, or how Claudius
can cause tragedies with the way he lives his as

Ode On A Grecian Urn Essay
Essay on Ode on a Grecian Urn
In John Keats s poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the reader is given descriptions of the urn. The urn is old
and Keats is acting as the interpreter of the urn. This essay will argue that the poem Ode on a Grecian
Urn conveys the idea that art shows an idealized human existence that cannot be achieved by humans.
In stanza two, John Keats introduces the scene of two young lovers on the urn to show idealized love.
There is a young man and woman on the Urn. The young man is listening the young woman sing.
Keats descries her voice: Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter; ... Her singing is
sweeter than any human can imagine. Thus the scene on the urn has a better vocal ability than humans
despite being mute; meaning that art shows a better human existence. Later on in the stanza Keats
states: Through winning near the goal yet, do not grieve; She cannot fade, through thou has not thy
bliss, For ever wilt thou love and she be fair! In these lines, the young man doesn t have bliss because
bliss would be catching the girl. The bliss part will only last a short period, and is not as powerful as
the emotions right before the catch. Thus the young man should not be sad that he doesn t have bliss
because he will forever love her and she will forever be beautiful. In the human world love ends and
people grow old. The scene on the urn will always show love, and the people will never grow old.

How Does Rap Music Cause Racism
Title There will never be an N word at SAE these are the words that were chanted by a frat group on a
bus earlier this year. After hearing these racist words many were quick to point the finger and blame it
on hip hop. For years this particular genre of music has been the target for the numerous acts of
violence, and racism throughout the country. Could the explicit rap lyrics that describes living in low
income housing, poverty stricken neighborhoods, and violent communities really promote such
vicious acts? Or are their lyrics a form of art that is simply expressing the eerie lifestyle many of them
have lived before success? Although many believe hip hop is to blame for the racism and violence in
our country, the real source that should be held accountable are the media and corporate executives of

Critical Criticism Of The Merchant Of Venice
After the Second World War and which was the worst of its chapters, the Holocaust ( the systematic
mass slaughter of European Jews, along with some other minorities in Nazi concentration camps ), the

The Merchant of Venice, then, is about judgement, redemption and mercy; the supersession in human

How Does Oscar Wilde Conform To Society
John Lahr, a critic of the famous author and playwright Oscar Wilde, once claimed, To stand out in
Victorian culture,Wilde had to stand against it. Wilde definitely did not conform to the society by
which he was surrounded; being an aesthetic homosexual was not the typical or ideal Victorian man.
His distaste for the era he lived in is seen clearly in his humorous play The Importance of Being
Earnest. Wilde was personally judged and outcasted by his own society, which caused him to mock his
audience and argue that the Victorian Era was not as virtuous as those of that time attempted to appear.
He uses this piece of writing as an opportunity to not only stand against and disprove the Victorian
ideals, but to persuade his audience to realize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Choosing a humourous style of writing allows him to attack the Victorian ideals without being too
offensive. Simply watching the play won t tell the audience his true purpose in writing this script; after
analyzing his writing, it can be seen that his tone in the play furthers his argument against the era. The
audience is watching a play that is a direct mocking of them without realizing it immediately. The title
of the play itself reads The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy for Serious People. Not
only is it a comedy, but it is meant for serious people, meaning the people of the Victorian Era. Being
so caught up in their morals or standards allowed them no time for humor and fun. The need to be a
typical Victorian citizen overpowered their ability to enjoy being themselves. Again, this leads back to
the idea of how people had to conform and change in order to fit the mold of the Victorian person.
Furthermore, Wilde s work can be referred to as a satire, meaning that Wilde uses his humor to mock
the vacuities of this time (Niederhoff). Beyond his style of writing, Wilde s choice in characters also
allows an emotional connection to form between the audience and play. Having roles that represent
people the audience could relate to allows them to attach themselves to the characters they are
watching. Both the male and female roles of this play are similar to the average

Analysis Of The Poem Death Of A Soldier

Analysis: Death of a Solider
Louisa May Alcott served as a volunteered nurse during the American Civil War, which took place in
the 1860 s. It was a brutal war between the United States and the Confederate states. Alcott
documented the last days of a brave solider named John. The almost thirty year old seldom spoke,
uttered no complaint, asked no sympathy, but tranquilly observed what went on about him.
With the use of several changing literary parts in the essay, Death of a Soldier, written by Louisa May
Alcott, the writer s remembrance of such a terrible disaster is a lot simpler to imagine and feel than if
she had recited her tale dully and emotionless. The meaning of Louisa May Alcott s, Death of a
Soldier is obvious in its reason to accentuate the different responses of a person in relation to death, in
addition to describing the more pleasing results of such a sad incident. She expressed her story by the
use of vivid descriptions and similes in her essay. It made the readers in a way experience what she
was going through.
In her story, Alcott showed the nurse s sympathy towards John even in the case of his unavoidable
death. She showed the soldiers unselfish mindset and added meaning to her words by using
similarities. She used some key strategies that really brought life to her piece of writing, with the
intention of inflicting an intense feeling that is able to move the readers. She was also

Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as
the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of
Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a
commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is
the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s
gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world.
On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. The
differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but rather, they complement

A study done by Dr. George Reeves (1942) showed that emotional states play an important role in the
quality of people s eating habits. He studies five obese white women. Dr. Reeves concluded that (a)
obesity was used at a defense mechanism (b) these patterns were sadistic and masochistic (c) oral
satisfaction extended beyond social acceptable forms and (d) obesity was used to simulate a masculine
ideal. This study was limited because he had only five cases of women, and they were all the same
race and around the same age. Hirsch and Morse (1960) presented a study to relate emotions to
obesity and establish correlations between metabolic findings from the obese patients in their study.
They brought 74 patients to the Victoria General Hospital Outpatient Obesity Clinic. The patients
were given a questionnaire that was oriented around their obesity history. The material from the
interview were reviewed for symptoms of emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, delusions,
etc. 27 of the 74 patients were judged to have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder after the
questionnaire was completed. This study however was unreliable because there was no average
weighted people to interview as a control, also the people in the study were unprepared to think
abstractly, so the physician guided them throughout the questionnaire, which made the data unreliable.

The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens

The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens
As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders (Galli,
Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever, asthma,
eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic disorders. The
morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the
general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et
al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world for over 50
years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find a completely
effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday life. With so many
suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area of health has been thoroughly studied.
Interestingly enough though, while we do know what happens in the human body during an allergy
attack there is still debate as to why we as humans evolved allergic disorders in the first place.
On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response

Persuasive Essay On Refugees
The issue of refugees heated up when President Donald Trump became president. He is totally against
of letting refugees into the United States. As most people who aren t refugees don t really care what he
does, but people who are refugees would have a different story. The UN has never really had any
issues towards refugees until Donald Trump had became president. The growth of refugees has
increased because of war, being discarded from the country, or not following the right religion.
Historically we have let many refugees come into our country in the past. According to The
Washington Post, global displacement levels declined to a historic low in 2005 but started escalating
again because of a series of conflicts, including the U.S. invasion of Iraq. By mid 2015, the total
number of refugees and internally displaced people had climbed to an all time high of more than 60
million people, the UNHCR estimates reflecting both the masses of people newly uprooted from war
torn regions of Syria and South Sudan, as well as those displaced years ago from places like Pakistan
and Afghanistan who still haven t been able to return home. So throughout the history, many refugees
have been fleeing their countries but letting refugees into the United States, it could cause a lot of
problems like it would cost the UN more money, there are billions of refugees why not help them all,
and there could be terrorist in the group. What this evidence suggests is that this is a very significant

one of the offspring s of Cain whom killed his brother Abel. Beowulf was the one warrior who was

When Beowulf and his men met Grendel the weapons of Beowulf s army became dull from a spell.
The weapons could not scratch the skin of Grendel. Beowulf used the faith from God to defeat
Grendel without the use of weapons. Beowulf was able to hold onto Grendel s arms until they were

specific customers. United Airlines used questionnaires to classify their potential customers by their
motivations and identified nine motivational segment profiles which are: global executives, schedule
optimizers, corporate troopers, mile accumulators, reluctant travelers, tour takers, quality vacationers,
travel seekers, and frugal flyers (The Times 100, 2003, p. 2). The reasons why travelers choose to fly
United varies. For example, some may choose this airline because of price, while others choose it
because of their frequent flyer program, schedules, or other services. As a legacy airline, it would not
be productive for United to try and gain business from those that are more concerned with lower ticket
fares. Instead, the airline chose to focus on the frequent business travelers as their core market. By
segmenting the customers, United chose to focus on the global executives as their target market. These
folks made up only 9 percent of United s travelers, but they represented 46 percent of United s
revenue (Di Frisco, 2011, para. 2). By using psychographic segmentation,

Civility Rhetorical Analysis

Writing Assignment #1 Civility
When once the forms of civility are violated, there remains little hope of return to kindness or decency
(Johnson csmonitor.com). Samuel Johnson, English writer and essayist, popular in the 19th century,
sums up the reality of modern American politics in such a simple sentence. However, the simple
warning, unheeded, has surely stymied and gridlocked American government to such an extent, that
even the most diehard believers in democracy are finding the current political environment to be
permanently toxic and therefore, hopelessly ineffective. When did it all go wrong? One of the best
examples of two political rivals that warred fiercely from 9 5, but liked and respected one another
after hours, comes in the friendship of President Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Tip O Neill.
Reagan and O Neill disagreed on nearly everything that a politician can include in a platform. Yet ...

In times when the U.S. confronts serious threats extremist rhetoric sometimes seems appropriate and
necessary. One could argue that speeches advocating the end of slavery or the fight against modern
terrorists was justified. However, those well meaning words can plant thoughts of violence in the
minds of the easily persuaded to commit violence to gain results (Davis upenn.edu). Rhetoric used by
political leaders is sometimes uncivil because politicians do not consider the consequences of what
they say or do before they execute their plans. With this being said, it would be extremely difficult to
remedy the incivility of political discourse without damaging the right of free speech granted by the
first amendment; however, President Obama s speech in Tucson, Arizona offers sound advice for
political leaders, speechmakers, and those who have a wide reaching

International Market Analysis For A Growing Firm
Luigi Vittatoe Professor Stanley Klatka BUS1801 Global Business Perspectives October 5, 2015
International Business Paper Introduction For a growing firm, the international market represents one
of the avenues to achieve growth and expansion. The global market, through trade, has been an engine
of growth, for example, world trade has been growing at seven percent since 1945, becoming a
contributor to economic growth. The international market has facilitated global trade and the
integration of economies. Therefore, it has enabled countries to exploit its comparative advantage. The
following report looks at the international market entry strategies, reasons for selecting the topic, new
relevant materials learned facts about the topic and the unexpected facts relating to it. Reasons for
choosing the topic International market entry is important because it enables an organization to
increase its output and attract new customers. By expanding the customer base and the scale of
production, the business will be able to achieve economies of scale. That is, the organization can be
able to reduce the average cost per unit of production when the level of output is substantially
increased (Stephan and Roin 28). After international expansion, cost advantages and higher profit be
obtained through bulk purchasing, enjoying high turnover rate and paying lower interest rates on
loans. For the business firm to grow, it has to find new opportunities of expansion. The opportunity for

Indirect Causes Of Biodiversity Conservation
The government using large scale efforts to conserve biodiversity or ecosystem services most
effectively complement bottom up conservation efforts led by local communities because they give
more research answers to them. Government ran records of biodiversity conservation attempts help
bottom up attempts not only because they provide more information, they provide ideas on how to fix
the problem, and they usually help. Biodiversity loss is caused by local, global, and regional factors,
so this problem should be brought to all of their attention. Responses designed to address biodiversity
loss will not be sufficient unless relevant direct and indirect drivers of change are brought to attention.
Some causes of biodiversity loss are localized, such as overexploitation. Others are global, such as
climate change, while a lot operate at a different variety of scales, such as the local impacts of invasive
species through global trade. Most of the responses named here were designed to address the direct
causes of biodiversity loss. However, these causes are better seen as symptoms of the indirect causes,
such as unsustainable patterns of consumption, demographic change, and globalization.
Biodiversity analysis is used for assessing the Earth s living state. Biodiversity preservation is
currently a priority of the states development. The states role in this area is figured out by by assessing
the biosphere s functions and ecosystem services provided by ecosystems.

Equality And Equality
Throughout the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, women and colored people were
bound by limitations. They were unable to vote, own property, have wages, etc. Throughout the
prompts of Chapter 17 and 18 in the Voices, many historical figures shared their opinions and
achievements upon the issue of discrimination and equality. Booker T. Washington and W. E. B.
DuBois paved the pursuit for equality within the American society. Their bravery of leading those of
color towards equality sparked the Civil Rights Movement, a triumph. Washington was an advocate of
slowly assimilating into the white society by proving to be worthy. Washington wanted to gain
economic independence through acts of peace and acceptance instead of fighting. He projected, Cast
down your bucket where you are Cast it down in making friends ... of the people of all races (pg. 58).
In his speech, Washington approached the whites in a calm manner asking for acceptance and
compromise. He wanted whites to support the uprising of a multicolored society. Washington
represented his principles of progression through a metaphor, In all things that are purely social we
can be as separate as the fingers, yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress (pg. 60).
DuBois believed, Political power, insistence on civil rights, and higher education of Negro youth,
were the only ways towards equality (pg. 63). Even though Washington s approach to inequality was
admirable, DuBois favored

A Hanging
The narration of the essay A Hanging by George Orwell demonstrates the theme of inhumane actions
towards a community. Firstly, the narrator switches from using we to I generalizing the stories point of
view. Secondly, the narration reflects the thoughts of everyone, but shows how the people s actions do
not reflect their thoughts. Lastly, the author illustrates an understanding of the insanity of the hanging,
whereas the narrator only briefly comes to the realization of its absurdity. The narrator uses we to I to
indicate to the readers certain aspects of the story. By alternating between the first person and second
person using I and we , it generalizes the community s point of view. This also lets the readers know a

Throughout the essay the narrator explains his situation to be nerve wracking, and how it is implied
that he must follow the rules of the government to stay safe, and not end up like the prisoners.
Towards the middle of the essay, the narrator starts to realize how unfair the prisoners are being
treated, but does not say anything. He then briefly notices the atmosphere of the jail yard to be
gloomy, and how it is not only him who feels the same way as he does. By the narrator taking part in
the actions as the rest of the guards it shows the readers that he is scared of the capitalist punishment
that will occur if he ever goes against it. An example of this is shown towards the end of the essay
after the hanging: We all had a drink together, native and European alike, quite amicably. The dead
man was a hundred yards away. (Orwell, 3) The narrator is trying to explain how the community in the
jail yard have all realized the crazy behaviour of taking someone s life, however, they cannot do
anything about it as they fear they will get in trouble with the government. Although the narrator
develops an opinion on the unjust actions taking place, him nor the other guards will not voice their
opinions and keep performing their inhumane tasks in hopes of staying alive under the british
government. The guards have ignored the fact that there is a dead man yards away from them,
pretending like nothing unusual occurred minutes

The Poor Laws And The Problems Of The Old Poor Law
According to the University of York Social Policy is the Study of the causes of social problems and
what Governments attempt to do about them. The Poor Law that was introduced in 1834 was a Law
that was put in place to support the poor. The law was introduced because it was getting increasingly
expensive to look after the poor so parliament introduced it in hopes it would diminish the cost of
looking after the poor and to get the poor out of the streets and into workhouses. Parliament promised
that this new law was to give the poor Clothes, free education, food and a place to stay.
The Poor Law was introduced because it was too much money to pay to look after the poor, so in
hopes to take the poor off the streets and to stop money going to the poor the government introduced
the law in 1834. The law was also put in place to embolden the poor to get back into work and support
themselves, There was a law before 1834 called the Old Poor Law this was found to be insufficient
because there was nothing in place to help the poor because even though they set up workhouses for
the poor they didn t offer accommodation for the poor. There was an act passed in 1795 called The
Speenhamland System which allowed employers to pay their workers exceptionally low wages during
these years the middle and the upper classes were getting more angry because they were the ones
paying for the poor who would avoid not going to or do any work.
The two main principles of the Poor Law Commission

inflammatory cytokines, the suppression of neutrophil activation and migration also it augments
activity of anti inflammatory molecule. The immunomodulator effect of corticosteroids can be

Legalization of Doping in Professional Sports
The incident of Ben Johnson s steroid disgrace during the Olympics of 1988 was not the genesis of
drug use in sport. The use of performance improving drugs has a history with research indicating cases
dating back to the creation of Olympic Games. Doping has shaken most, if not all of the sports
competitions today. A lot of winners in various sport categories have been stripped their medals due
positive elements of drug and substances in their blood or urine during tests. Sportsmen and women
have been subjected to drug test frequently with those having positive results getting disqualified from
competing.
There are various types of doping drugs in sport which include; Steroids, body development hormone,
stimulants, blood doping for increased performance in competition. Performance enhancing drugs has
a huge market in the world with billions of dollars in flow.
Proponents of drug ban have enough reasons to support their course, with most of them pointing at;
reverence for guidelines of sport, acknowledgement that ordinary abilities and their aptness are the
argument of sports, and the vision of an arms race in physical performance. Performance augmenting
tablets have the influence to overcome variances in ordinary abilities and the inclination to expense
and endure in the pursuit to effect those aptitudes. For the worth of sport they contend, there must be a
level playing ground for all competitors. The use of drugs can lead to loss of what has been achieved

  • 2. Summary Of A Good Book Of Mice And Men In A Teachable Good Book: Of Mice and Men , Thomas Scarseth, presents examples to argue why John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men, is a good book to learn from. Even though people enjoy a light, carefree story with a happy ending, Scarseth explains why the vulgar content of OMAM, that would turn some readers away, is needed for the story to have meaning. Referring to what great literature looks like, Thomas Scarseth has a decent idea. In his assessment, Scarseth claims great writers and readers know that sour endings in literature works are sometimes crucial. His opinions on what makes a great writer and reader makes sense because he is an English professor at University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Because this is an essay and likely to be read by scholars and students, it is reasonable that the author would say, But the greatest writers and the best readers know that literature is not always only mere sugar candy; it can sometimes be a strong medicine... , as he is either praising or insulting the readers intelligence based on their point of view on happy endings in literature. Realistic tragedy in literature is unpleasant to the people who believe in idealistic happy endings. Unfortunately, tragic endings are necessary for prosperous knowledge, which is what great readers and writers gain from these literature types called Tragedy. From here, it can be argued that Scarseth is correct about the needed bitter endings. When reading, He pulled the trigger (Steinbeck 106), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue. The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satan himself. Satan played a big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as red face with big whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book Chaucer says, There was a Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face (Chaucer line 642). Not only that but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is going on around him, According to the text it says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy , then he would shout and jabber as if he s crazy (Chaucer line 653). Cobb s article titled This is What It Means to Say Smoke Signals, the author elucidates the significance of this film by showcasing the uniqueness of its story, creators, and contemporary representation of Native Americans in Hollywood film. Cobb brings to light the idea that this film was not only the first film to be written and directed by Native artists, but that it was the first to exercise the idea of self definition and cultural sovereignty (207). As the segment put it, the movie is a classic Hollywood roadtrip/buddy cinema that uses humor to tell a story of loss and redemption about the two main protagonists, Thomas Builds the Fire and Victor Joseph (208). The author goes on to more clearly contend the singularity of the film in comparison to other films such as Powwow Highway in the sense that Smoke Signals did not center around an Indian and white conflict, but instead it focused on Victor s internal struggles with his father (210). This, combined with the fact that Native Americans were not only in the film, but also a part of the outside, introduced the reasons why the film had a unparalleled plot and a set of different standards to meet in comparison to past films. As Cobb put it, the film had to find a balance in creating a film that had an implicit political goal, while also being a relaxing American and Native cinema that appease both audiences and was able to achieve some commercial value. According to the writer, the film was able to achieve this in the comedic conversations between Victor and Thomas, highlighting a famous scene of a bus that challenges the stereotypical images of the Indian warrior and medicine man (214). This results in a low chance of chemical reactions occurring. However, if the concentration was strengthened there would be a higher chance of collision and reaction. This diagram shows many particles, indicating a high concentration. This has a high chance of chemical reaction, as there is little space to move without colliding with another particle. This causes the high chance of collision and chemical reaction, and shows that the higher the concentration, the more chemical reactions will take place. • 17. The Freedom Of Rights In The First Amendment The rights protected in the First Amendment are essential to the functioning of a free society in that they provide the means through which the ideas outlined in the Declaration of Independence are fulfilled. In the First Amendment, the power of Congress is limited by prohibiting the creation of laws regarding the establishment or restriction of religion, and the abridgement of the freedom of speech, of press, to peaceably assemble, or to petition the government. Without these fundamental rights, the voice of minorities would be silenced and societal development would not occur. Eighteenth century Americans considered freedom of religion to be an essential right that protected both church and state. Many colonists came to America to escape religious persecution, and believed religion helped to develop individual character. The establishment and free exercise clauses help develop the character of individuals needed to maintain a free society. Moreover, freedom of speech allows people to compare and discuss their ideas regarding ethics, politics, morals, and public issues; as English philosopher and political economist John Stuart Mill stated, progress can occur only when all points of view can be expressed and considered. Reason is division of 2 volts range into 256 (28 = 256) steps is much more sensitive than converting 5 volts range into 256 steps. Now the question arises, why do we need a less sensitive system, the answer if a more sensitive system is used then there is a huge change in the digital output with the very little tilt of the hand, which is difficult to be handled. [pic] Fig. 3: Amplification and Attenuation Circuitry Solution to this problem is to increase the range of the output of the accelerometer by using an additional circuitry. Amplification means amplification of upper range i.e. 3.5 volts to the 5 volts, and the attenuation means the attenuation of lower range i.e. 1.5 volts to 0 volts. 3.2 Tilt Detection The basic function of this module is to detect the tilting of the hand and sending some binary data against meaningful gestures, to the bend detection module. Formed by some of the tiniest know elements that can be found, and yet water shapes and is a vital part of the biological processes on Earth regardless on which phase of matter, namely solid, liquid, or gas, it is in. Therefore, scientists and chemists always search for water, especially liquid water, first in other distant planets considering that finding water on other planets is a major development in the search of life. Water is a substance that is composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen. A molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms, each linked by a single covalent bond to an oxygen atom. However, only two of the six outer shell electrons of oxygen are used for this purpose, leaving four electrons which are organized into two non bonding pairs. These pairs surrounding the oxygen have a partially negative charge mainly through electrostatic attraction increasing its electronegativity, which tend to arrange themselves as far from each other as possible in order to minimize repulsions. In turn, makes the hydrogen atoms to have a partially positive charge, and therefore making the two non bonding pairs remain closer to the oxygen atom, which exert a stronger repulsion against the two covalent bonding pairs, effectively pushing the two hydrogen atoms closer together. This electronic structure of water makes it possible for the molecule to bend on a special way, shown through the figure: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An individual might take this stance on this argument upon first hearing. However, the reality of the situation is that there are numerous parts of the play that show that this statement is not only incorrect, but an oversimplified version of the bigger truth. Claudius then goes on to trick Laertes into plotting against Hamlet, and Laertes proclaims, And so I have a noble father lost;/A sister driven into desperate terms/Whose worth. if praises may go back again,/Stood challenger on mount of all the age/For her perfections. • 22. Ode On A Grecian Urn Essay Essay on Ode on a Grecian Urn In John Keats s poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the reader is given descriptions of the urn. The urn is old and Keats is acting as the interpreter of the urn. This essay will argue that the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn conveys the idea that art shows an idealized human existence that cannot be achieved by humans. In stanza two, John Keats introduces the scene of two young lovers on the urn to show idealized love. There is a young man and woman on the Urn. The young man is listening the young woman sing. Keats descries her voice: Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter; ... Her singing is sweeter than any human can imagine. Thus the scene on the urn has a better vocal ability than humans despite being mute; meaning that art shows a better human existence. Later on in the stanza Keats states: Through winning near the goal yet, do not grieve; She cannot fade, through thou has not thy bliss, For ever wilt thou love and she be fair! In these lines, the young man doesn t have bliss because bliss would be catching the girl. The bliss part will only last a short period, and is not as powerful as the emotions right before the catch. Thus the young man should not be sad that he doesn t have bliss because he will forever love her and she will forever be beautiful. In the human world love ends and people grow old. The scene on the urn will always show love, and the people will never grow old. Thus art has the ability to last; therefore the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wilde definitely did not conform to the society by which he was surrounded; being an aesthetic homosexual was not the typical or ideal Victorian man. His distaste for the era he lived in is seen clearly in his humorous play The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde was personally judged and outcasted by his own society, which caused him to mock his audience and argue that the Victorian Era was not as virtuous as those of that time attempted to appear. Choosing a humourous style of writing allows him to attack the Victorian ideals without being too offensive. Simply watching the play won t tell the audience his true purpose in writing this script; after analyzing his writing, it can be seen that his tone in the play furthers his argument against the era. The audience is watching a play that is a direct mocking of them without realizing it immediately. The title of the play itself reads The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy for Serious People. Not only is it a comedy, but it is meant for serious people, meaning the people of the Victorian Era. Being so caught up in their morals or standards allowed them no time for humor and fun. The need to be a typical Victorian citizen overpowered their ability to enjoy being themselves. Again, this leads back to the idea of how people had to conform and change in order to fit the mold of the Victorian person. Furthermore, Wilde s work can be referred to as a satire, meaning that Wilde uses his humor to mock the vacuities of this time (Niederhoff). Beyond his style of writing, Wilde s choice in characters also allows an emotional connection to form between the audience and play. It was a brutal war between the United States and the Confederate states. Alcott documented the last days of a brave solider named John. The almost thirty year old seldom spoke, uttered no complaint, asked no sympathy, but tranquilly observed what went on about him. With the use of several changing literary parts in the essay, Death of a Soldier, written by Louisa May Alcott, the writer s remembrance of such a terrible disaster is a lot simpler to imagine and feel than if she had recited her tale dully and emotionless. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). However, the simple warning, unheeded, has surely stymied and gridlocked American government to such an extent, that even the most diehard believers in democracy are finding the current political environment to be permanently toxic and therefore, hopelessly ineffective. When did it all go wrong? One of the best examples of two political rivals that warred fiercely from 9 5, but liked and respected one another after hours, comes in the friendship of President Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Tip O Neill. Reagan and O Neill disagreed on nearly everything that a politician can include in a platform. Yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In times when the U.S. confronts serious threats extremist rhetoric sometimes seems appropriate and necessary. One could argue that speeches advocating the end of slavery or the fight against modern terrorists was justified. However, those well meaning words can plant thoughts of violence in the minds of the easily persuaded to commit violence to gain results (Davis upenn.edu). With this being said, it would be extremely difficult to remedy the incivility of political discourse without damaging the right of free speech granted by the first amendment; however, President Obama s speech in Tucson, Arizona offers sound advice for political leaders, speechmakers, and those who have a wide reaching ... • 46. Indirect Causes Of Biodiversity Conservation The government using large scale efforts to conserve biodiversity or ecosystem services most effectively complement bottom up conservation efforts led by local communities because they give more research answers to them. Government ran records of biodiversity conservation attempts help bottom up attempts not only because they provide more information, they provide ideas on how to fix the problem, and they usually help. Biodiversity loss is caused by local, global, and regional factors, so this problem should be brought to all of their attention. Responses designed to address biodiversity loss will not be sufficient unless relevant direct and indirect drivers of change are brought to attention. Some causes of biodiversity loss are localized, such as overexploitation. Others are global, such as climate change, while a lot operate at a different variety of scales, such as the local impacts of invasive species through global trade. Most of the responses named here were designed to address the direct causes of biodiversity loss. However, these causes are better seen as symptoms of the indirect causes, such as unsustainable patterns of consumption, demographic change, and globalization. Biodiversity analysis is used for assessing the Earth s living state. Biodiversity preservation is currently a priority of the states development. The states role in this area is figured out by by assessing the biosphere s functions and ecosystem services provided by ecosystems. The Putorana ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the essay the narrator explains his situation to be nerve wracking, and how it is implied that he must follow the rules of the government to stay safe, and not end up like the prisoners. Towards the middle of the essay, the narrator starts to realize how unfair the prisoners are being treated, but does not say anything. He then briefly notices the atmosphere of the jail yard to be gloomy, and how it is not only him who feels the same way as he does. By the narrator taking part in the actions as the rest of the guards it shows the readers that he is scared of the capitalist punishment that will occur if he ever goes against it. An example of this is shown towards the end of the essay after the hanging: We all had a drink together, native and European alike, quite amicably. The dead man was a hundred yards away. (Orwell, 3) The narrator is trying to explain how the community in the jail yard have all realized the crazy behaviour of taking someone s life, however, they cannot do anything about it as they fear they will get in trouble with the government. Although the narrator develops an opinion on the unjust actions taking place, him nor the other guards will not voice their opinions and keep performing their inhumane tasks in hopes of staying alive under the british government. The guards have ignored the fact that there is a dead man yards away from them, pretending like nothing unusual occurred minutes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
