16. How can I visually portray my family members in Chiaroscuro using different materials? I am drawn
to this subject as I wish to make memories fresh again because I am far from my hometown.
I explore this question by using strong contrast to explore the mystery that memories contain. These
works led me to the idea of beginning with a Chiaroscuro still life of a vase and chess pieces that
remind me of my grandparent’s home. I further investigate by moving to capture memories of loved
ones in color. By contrast in this extreme darkness and light, I improved the way my work has the
illusion of depth.
I explored how chiaroscuro works with different materials and practiced using contrast in artworks
#3-5. I then introduced portraits in monochromatic color so that my artwork made me feel closer to
loved ones. I felt that I could improve the way I showed growing up, so I enriched #8 to showed
myself older to better depict clearer memories.
I investigated chiaroscuro with traditional materials such as charcoal, oil painting, and ink in #1-5.
Then moved to glazing with watercolor in #8, grisaille pastel #9, and mono-print painting in #10 to
capture an old-world feeling, of my memories from home, in a new way.
30. • The photograph above
depicts the ambitious,
competent, and energetic
motivations that drive a
type three.
• To the right, I decided to
use the rule of thirds so
that Abby was the center of
the picture and the eye was
immediately drawn to her.
This further points to
the outstanding type three.
Abby, (person
pictured) was a
highly competitive
gymnast who
unfortunately had
to stop when she
suffered a terrible
injury, while
realizing the sport
she commit her
life to.
TYPE 3: THE ACHIEVER
31. TYPE 4: THE INDIVIDUALIST
• For this type, I depict the
imaginative, and creative by
using a bright color palette.
• I had Andy
(model) bring two things
that motivated him.
• The cape and
guitar emphasize his
personal type and
motivations in his way of
life.
