Commercial Drones - Technology & Industry AnalysisSudhir Manchanda
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have long been used in armed forces. Now that they are at the cusp of commercial applications, let's get a sense of the technology, industry, leading startups and business applications that they are trying to build for!
These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Biz Models for Hi-Tech Products to analyze the business model for Airware, a provider of operating systems for drones. Developing applications for drones involves high development costs and these costs can be reduced through the use of a well-designed operating system that is used in many types of drones. Just as Android, iOS, and Windows have reduced the development costs for application software in smart phones and personal computers, Airware’s operating system, or aerial information platform as they call it, can reduce the cost of implementing drones for agriculture, delivery, movie production, security, and the many other applications that have been proposed. Airware is trying to develop an eco-system of drone manufacturers, application developers, sensor manufacturers, and drone operators, each of which contributes towards low cost and high performance applications for drones. These slides describe the value proposition, customers, method of value capture, scope of activities and the method of strategic control for Airware.
This presentation was given to Florida URISA via webinar on February 13, 2014 by Bill Emison, Senior Account Manager for Merrick & Company of Greenwood Village, Colorado. The purpose of this webinar was to provide an objective and practical review of current unmanned airborne mapping capabilities in the United States.
This presentation gives several examples of how commercial drones are used in industry. Originally presented at the Day of Drones, Hiller Museum of Aviation, San Carlos, California, August 27, 2016
Drones are everywhere nowadays, yet they mostly rely on a pilot with a remote control. In order to operate a fleet of drones automatically, safely and cost effectively, we've developed the most affordable copter drones that are controlled using our custom automated platform, rather than relying on a pilot.

With the explosive growth of IoT, the edge is predicted to grow to 25 billion connected devices by 2020. But, enterprises are still struggling to manage hundreds of devices that they have deployed. Not from a device management standpoint but more from a data management standpoint. Enterprises are unable to capture and process data directly from the edge devices for immediate analysis and gaining real-time actionable intelligence. So, if that is not possible, IoT initiatives are failing to become successful. How can an enterprise gather real-time data from edge devices? How can it change the behavior of such data collection processes? How can it ensure that data will be analyzed immediately? How can it understand the lineage of the data from edge to enterprise? How can it manage edge agents? What is an edge management hub? Attend this session to get a detailed understanding of key edge management challenges and how to address them with the correct solutions.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

1. Patent Pending Drone Defense System™
Land To Air, Air To Air, Sea To Air
Building A Better Future
Saving Lives
Presented by: Shana and Peter Whitmarsh
2. OUR MISSION
To Save Lives By Keeping Flight Paths Clear
For Aircraft and Small Unmanned Aerial Systems
(sUAS)
3. THE PROBLEM
3
Small UAVs (drones) flying near aircraft are a serious aviation safety hazard. They can
also be weaponized and used by terrorists.
• Aircraft and air-traffic control can’t detect them. There were 900 near-miss incidents
between August 2015 and April 2016. There has been one collision, more are imminent.
• The FAA Part 107 Ruling relaxes certification requirements to fly recreationally and
commercially enabling up to 650,000 unsecured drones to fly in our national airspace by
the end of 2016, significantly increasing the risk of mid-air collisions with aircraft,
catastrophic plane crashes, loss of life and collateral damage.
• Terrorists can weaponize small drones to maximize loss of life and collateral damage.
4. 4
CURRENT SOLUTIONS
There is no single system that can protect and defend against rogue drones.
• No comprehensive detection, collision avoidance or takedown systems are
available. None are available for use by aircraft, where the need is the most urgent.
• The only takedown countermeasures available are for use within line of site.
• Less than 100-meter terrestrial detection systems, mostly RF which is dangerous.
• No detection for weapons, bio-agents, chemicals, firearms or explosives.
• Current aircraft radar cannot detect small drones at any range. They are only seen
by pilots when they are within line of sight.
5. 5
OUR SOLUTION
Patent-Pending Drone Aviation Radar™ (DAR): Saves lives and allows small unmanned
aerial systems (sUAS, drones) and aircraft to fly safely together:
• Lightweight, easy to install drone detection, anti-collision control system for all aircraft.
• Prevents mid-air collisions with small drones – creates aircraft safe zones by keeping small
drones out of aircraft flight paths.
• Fits within existing aircraft radar systems.
• Detects flying stealth objects as small as birds from up to 10 miles away.
• Uses AI, no human intervention or controllers. Does not use RF.
• Available and customizable for all aircraft models.
• Uses patent-pending Drone Defense System™ (DDS™) Core Technology Suite.
6. 6
Patent Pending Drone Aviation Radar™ (DAR™) - How we’ll prevent another 9/11:
• Intercept – Acquire – Control sUAS/Drones to keep airspace clear for safe flight.
• DAR™ can detect and ID drones, and intercept them from as far as 10 miles away via Wi-Fi CS1
Sensors, Sensor Arrays, special algorithms and Satellite Systems. The system can be used on
passenger jets and other aircraft.
• Built upon the patent-pending Drone Defense System™ (DDS) core technologies for land sea and air
applications.
• DAR™ tracks, tags, traces, IDs, reports, transmits, assigns status, and determines actions: deter,
take-down, control and redirect to a safe zone; contain or Return To Sender™ and document/notify
airspace owner, law enforcement and other entities.
• DAR™ can be installed at stationary locations, it works with existing infrastructure and it’s scalable.
OUR SOLUTION
7. 7
DAR™ will be integrated into all current and future Radar Systems via an API or installed in Aircraft
System avionics as an independent apparatus.
TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS
• DAR™ creates aircraft flight path safe
zones at 1 mile, 3 miles, and 10 mile
sensor pickets.
• DAR™ creates “Clearspace-1” highest
safety level of airspace that is clear
(No Drones) for the aircraft to fly through.
• Can implement more stringent
countermeasures.
• Works via AI – no human controllers, does
not use RF.
9. 9
EAGLE DAR™ SIMULATOR APP
Eagle DAR Simulator App for iOS, Android and Desktop
• 350,000 registered aircraft, and future aircraft must be fitted with DAR™.
Our App streamlines the selection, specification and customization process
for aircraft manufacturers.
• Simulations show what occurs when different types of Aircraft collide with
Drones by demonstrating the effects in scenarios that users select.
• Manufacturers can select and customize their DAR™ system in the app and
view the results. They can customize DAR™ to fit their own requirements
with the basic DAR™ format that includes the Shield Zone Buffer that
creates a protected zone to repel Drones from their “ClearSpace Zone.”
• They can select advanced features including a Virtual Black Box, an
Onboard Electronic Detection System or a Satellite Direct Communication to
Law Enforcement.
• Upon completing the creation, customization, ordering and sign-off
processes in the App the order is sent via e-commerce to one of CSA’s pre-
selected Franchise Licensed Avionics Manufacturers to fulfill and install.
10. 10
MARKET
OPPORTUNITIES
Growing market and increasingly crowded airspace = BIG safety and privacy issues:
• According to DOT, there are 6,000 aircraft in flight at any given time.
• By the end of 2016, there will be up to 650,000 commercial and recreational drones.
• There were 900 reported aircraft/drone incidents in the past year. Source: Fortune.com, CNN
• DOT: there are currently 350,000 commercial aircraft to fit with DAR™.
• $1.05 Billion Revenue Opportunity generated by $3,000 per license, per aircraft projected
MSRP for DAR™.
• Franchise licenses available for
aircraft manufacturers.
There’s currently no way for
aircraft to detect or deter drones;
pilots have to rely on last-minute
evasive maneuvers to avoid
them.

Acquisition of Technology , Licensing by Manufacturers– Potential Buyers
• Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, DHL
• Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, DJI, Virgin, Lear
• BAE, Garmin, Craig, GE Aviation, Honeywell
Types of Companies that could acquire or license WRG’s DDS™ Technology
• Networked Home Security, Home Networking, Internet/Tech Company
• Aerospace or Drone Manufacturer
Why they would acquire or license DDS technology, how we would fit into their strategy
• Companies will want to control airspace
• Provide Safety and Security
• They may not be able to compete or retain market share
They won’t build it themselves because…
• It’s easier to purchase the “System” rather than compete
High Return On Investment (ROI)
• Licensing, IPO, Acquisition, Market Control, and/or International Buyout
