The publishing community has been an early and enthusiastic adopter of the work of ORCID, an independent non-profit organization with a twofold mission: to provide an open registry of unique identifiers for researchers, and to work with the scholarly community to ensure that this persistent identifier is embedded in research workflows. ORCID serves as a hub, linking existing identifiers, such as CrossRef and DataCite DOIs, ISNI organizational identifiers, and author identifiers including ResearcherId and ScopusAuthor ID with the ultimate goal of connecting researchers with their contributions. This session will provide an opportunity to learn about the status of ORCID integration into manuscript submission and production systems, into reviewer workflows, into conference systems, and into repositories and evaluation systems. A panel of experts from diverse publishing will provide practical examples and best practices for how the scholarly communications community is using ORCID.

Initial adoption has been rapid but the full benefit will be realized only if ORCID iDs are used by all stakeholder communities. ORCID iDs enable reuse of items in new contexts by making connections between items from the same author in different places. Through its author-focused approach ORCID will contribute to bridging the current divide between management of publications and research data, which are often carried out in independent ways through different, frequently disconnected kinds of repositories. Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) are an increasingly important tool and technology that enable new services for research. They are attached to outputs, grant funding, people and more. They provide a way to connect data, improve accuracy, and help the flow of information. Researchers can benefit from time savings, and more accurate attribution (think better citation data…) and institutions can gain efficiency savings and a better understanding of their research portfolio.
This webinar will provide an overview of the current PID landscape and will offer guidance on how PIDs for people (ORCID iDs) can be integrated in your systems, helping your researchers to take advantage of new and emerging services.
About the Webinar
In the world of authority control, it is a bit of an alphabet soup of acronyms. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), which is a system to uniquely identify scientific and other academic authors; ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier), which identifies the public identities of contributors to media content such as books, television programs, and newspaper articles; and VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) a system that combines multiple name authority files into a single authority service, hosted by OCLC, all have their place when discussing identifiers for authority control.
Identity issues and disambiguating authors, researchers, other content creators, and their institutional affiliations are crucial as we move into a world of linked data. In this webinar, presenters will cover the implications and differences between ORCID, ISNI, and VIAF, what is the proper use of each, and some of the benefits that come with using authority files and making that information available on the Web.

ORCID addresses the name ambiguity problem by connecting unique identifiers for authors with their works (papers, grants, datasets and more), organizations, and other identifiers such as ISNI.
ORCID engages all sectors of the research community, including publishers, funders, universities, and the researchers themselves. Researchers have control over their ORCID record and save time by using their ORCID identifier during manuscript submission, dataset submission, or grant application. ORCID identifiers thus become embedded in the metadata and new works are published with identifiers already attached. This simplifies reporting and enhances discovery. Metadata about new works can also be pushed back to ORCID, automatically updating the researcher's record.

The relevance and benefits of the ORCID persistent identifiers in the research ecosystem are increasingly evident. Nowadays users expect a good integration between the repository platform and ORCID with a bidirectional exchange of information. Unfortunately, up to now DSpace was lacking in this regard except for a very minor and limited integration allowing the submitter to query the ORCID public registry during the deposit. On the other hand, the cousin project DSpace-CRIS has featured a full integration [3] since 2014 at the time of the ORCID v1.2 API and based on a version 4 of DSpace.
Since the release of DSpace 7, the DSpace governance has been encouraging a progressive merge of these projects, backporting from DSpace-CRIS the most user-demanded features.
As a result, the DSpace 7.3 release plan includes the porting of the core ORCID integration [2], enabling DSpace users to finally connect their local DSpace profiles with ORCID, showing an authenticated ORCID badge where appropriate and pushing DSpace records to their ORCID profiles.
The presentation will show in detail the functionalities now available, the requirements to enable them in terms of ORCID membership and DSpace configuration, and the plans to bring more ORCID-related features to DSpace.

"Crossmark: What it is and how to use it" - The webinar will be presented in Brazilian Portuguese - October 14, 2020.
Crossmark provides publishers with a standardized way of communicating important updates to content and ensuring that the information in the published article is current and secure.
The presentation will show what is needed to implement the Crossmark, technical requirements and the opportunity to answer questions.
The content is interesting for those who are members of Crossref, publishing services companies, researchers, librarians, funding agencies and members of editorial committees of scientific journals.
The presentation will provided by Crossref ambassadors in Brazil, Bruna Erlandsson and Edilson Damasio.

providers, hosting platforms, funders, librarians; really anyone interested in finding out a bit more about what
Crossref is and does.

2. The Problem: Connecting
Research with Researchers
Without a way to discretely identify those participating in
research across disciplines, organizations, and countries,
the research community lacks the ability to
accurately and easily identify and link researchers
and scholars with their professional activities.

3. ORCID Scope & principles
• ORCID provides a central registry of persistent, unique and open
identifiers for active researchers and scholars
• Adoption encouraged by embedding within research
workflows (institutions, funders, publishers)
• An ORCID record requires basic information (name, email) and
can be enhanced with additional information (affiliations, degrees,
digital objects, other identifiers)
• Records can be created by individuals AND organizations; proxy
management supported
• Privacy is controlled by the individual (opt-in)
• ORCID is a open initiative and we enable third parties to build
value added services using ORCID infrastructure 3

8. ORCID Users and Members
Three weeks after launch, ORCID had 15,728 registered users
and 22 member organizations—funders, research organizations,
associations, publishers, and third-party developers. JISC have
endorsed ORCID for UK adoption, and we are working with
other countries and national ID schemes to crosslink ORCID iDs.

12. 1. Linking to other IDs
Linking to an external ID can help an ORCID user quickly
set up a record by importing their research works
metadata. A wizard can be implemented for the user to
review and confirm the works associated with the ID, and
then import the list to their ORCID record. Any changes
made can also be collected by the ID provider to correct
internal databases.
