- President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen was wounded in a rocket attack on his compound in Sanaa, as government forces have been fighting tribal groups for nearly two weeks. - Protests against Saleh's rule have been ongoing for four months, and government forces have opened fire on protesters multiple times, killing and wounding many. - Islamist militants are taking advantage of the chaos to seize towns along Yemen's southern coast, threatening to plunge the country into civil war.

2. Crisis in Yemen Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh was reportedly wounded today in a rocket attack on his compound in Sanaa. Yemeni government troops have been engaged in street fights with tribal groups loyal to Sheikh Sadeq al-Ahmar for nearly two weeks now, after al-Ahmar sided with thousands of Yemeni protesters who have been peacefully demonstrating and calling for President Saleh's ouster for nearly four months now. Government forces have opened fire on protesters many times over those months, killing and wounding dozens. Adding further complications, Islamist militants, possibly tied to Al Qaeda, are now taking advantage of the chaos and instability, and have seized control of several towns in along Yemen's south coast. Collected here are images from the past several weeks of troubled Yemen, a country that may soon be mired in a civil war. Yemen's main opposition coalition says it will accept a transfer of power to the vice-president, after President Ali Abdullah Saleh left for Saudi Arabia. Otherwise, the opposition Joint Meeting Parties said, they would seek to form a transitional government. Vice-President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi stepped in when Mr Saleh departed on Saturday for medical treatment. Mr Hadi said Mr Saleh, who was wounded last week in an attack on his compound in Sanaa, would return within days.. Saudi Arabia said it would continue to encourage parties to accept the deal, according to the country's state media. Thousands of people have been celebrating Mr Saleh's departure. However, there are mounting fears for the stability of the country, which is home to an al-Qaeda wing and riven with tribal and political divisions.
