THE CREATIVE MÉLANGE RECRUITMENT <SUMMER 2014>
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION & EXPECTATIONS
1. The Editor in Chief:
- Oversees all the aspects of the production of the Creative Mélange.
- Organizes scheduling, manages the budget, arranges meetings, edits and views
all the contents published on the Creative Mélange, works with the publishers,
and make other executive decisions.
2. Executive Directors (3):
- Hold the second most important positions after the Editor in Chief.
- Give crucial advice to the Editor in Chief when of reviewing all the aspects of
the production, managing the budgets, arranging meetings and so on.
- Work closely with the Business & Marketing managers.
- Are responsible for giving the Editor in Chief accurate and timely reports on the
operation of the magazine.
3. Managing Editors (3):
- Review and edit the final copy of the magazine.
- Manage and give valuable and supportive advice to the section editors in terms
of ways to improve editing quality and efficiency.
- Work as the critical connections between the Editor in Chief and the Managing
directors as well as writers.
- Follow up with writers on article feedback.
3. Business & Marketing Managers (2):
- Introduce the magazine to new audiences.
Creative Mélange
Job description
We welcome Contributors to send in
their pieces as well. However, the
works of staff writers will be of
priority; thus, in a case where the
writings have similar qualities to each
other, there are higher chances that a
staff writer’s piece will get published
compared to that of a contributor’s.
Contributors do not have to apply. In
order to receive updates on the theme
and topics for each section,

page for updates.

- Maintain a professional outlook on flyers, communication channels, etc.
- Hold crucial responsibilities in budget management and PR campaigns.
- Come up with creative initiations to enhance the publicity of the magazine.
- Advise the Editor in Chief in business and marketing strategies.
- Assist the Editor in Chief and Executive Directors in negotiation with publishers
and/or other partners.
4. Communications Director:
- Is responsible for recruiting new members to the official crew.
- Follows up on the work of current members, gives valuable and supportive
feedback.
- Advise the Editor in Chief in communicating with the publishers.
- Is responsible for internal accordance within the magazine’s editorial board.
- Is responsible for maintaining professional-level communications on Facebook
and emails (in response to questions or inquiries).
5. Creative Mélange Section Editors (2)
- Is responsible for editing the content of the Creative Mélange section only,
which includes creative writings, poems and other literary works.*
- Review and edit contributions.
- Give writers valuable and supportive feedback.
- Possible genres:
o Poems
o Short writing
o Fiction/non-fiction
o Descriptive writing
o Narrative
o Creative writing
*Creative Mélange Section Editors will be given a theme for each edition
6. Section Editors (4)
- Is responsible for editing other parts of the magazine excluding ‘Creative
Mélange’ section: travel/culture, fashion, academic and arts. (The sections may
vary)
- Give writers valuable and supportive feedback.
 Possible ideas for 4 main themes/sections:
Travel/Culture Fashion & Life Academic Arts
- Gastronomy and its
relation with cultures
- Modern world
integration
- Tourist attractions
- Travelling tips,
restaurants, galleries,
shopping, etc.
- Current events
- Trends
- DIY projects
- Book and movie
reviews
- Health trends
- Music updates
- Interviews
- Bloggers’ corner
- College advice
- Studying advice
- Boarding school/
college experience
- Inspirations
- College essays
- Book Reviews
- Pop art
- Art trends
- Classic arts

7. Directors of Design (2):
- Oversee all aspects of the magazine’s layout and graphic design.
- Oversee all aspects of the layout and presentation of the magazine; give
supportive and valuable feedback to the Graphics & Photography Editors and the
Layout Editors.
8. Graphics & Photography Editors (4):
- Design graphics and take photographs for each issue of the magazine.
- Assist in laying out the paper and are in charge of soliciting photographers.
9. Web Editors (2):
- Create and maintain good operations of the magazine’s official website.
- Input articles on the website while maintaining the same professional look as in
the printed edition.
- Back up data on the website regularly.
- Assist in casual IT needs of other members.
10. Staff writers:
- The core structure of the magazine.
- Submit writings for each edition of the magazine.
- Can choose from the suggested topic or come up with new and creative topics.
- Acknowledge the Managing Editors upon starting an article.
- Maintain a proper and professional relationship with the Managing Editors and
other staff writers.
- Take responsibility for his or her work; do not plagiarize under any
circumstances.
- Cross-proofread with other staff writers.
- Responsible for finishing claimed articles by the assigned deadlines.
11. Staff Photographers/ Illustrators:
- The core structure of the magazine
- Submit photos or artworks for each edition of the magazine.
- Acknowledge one of the Managing Editors upon starting on any project.
- Maintain a proper and professional relationship with the Managing Editors and
other staff photographers.
- Take responsibility for his or her work; do not plagiarize under any
circumstances.
- Assist staff writers in illustrating for their articles. For example, when a staff
writer and a staff photographer work together on the same article, the staff
writer submits the text content while the staff photographer submit the graphics
content, making a complete article.
- Responsible for finishing claimed articles by the assigned deadlines.
