Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that allows creators to choose how their work can be shared and used by others. It provides copyright licenses that give creators more flexibility than all rights reserved copyright. The presentation discusses the different Creative Commons licenses that allow creators to choose whether others can copy, distribute, remix or build upon their work. It also explains how creators can apply a Creative Commons license to their online content by selecting a license and including the associated code on their website.
State of CC Usability and User Research (GS 2019)Jane Park
Slides from the session at the 2019 CC Global Summit in Lisbon, Portugal: https://sched.co/MiWZ
In 2018, CC kicked off an exciting initiative called CC usability. I will present findings from six months of user research, including the high-level goals and human-centered design process we undertook, and how we arrived at 9 key insights. I will also present some of the prototypes we developed, and how the research transformed our approach to the CC Search product. Lastly, I’ll preview what’s ahead in 2019 and gather feedback on ways to more effectively engage the global community in this work.

This staff development workshop was taught at the University of Michigan Library in January 2008. It provides an introduction to Creative Commons, including links to websites where users can find Creative Commons-licensed works.
What is Creative Commons? How can it help you understand sharing on the web? How can it help you share your work. Here is a presentation that introduces Creative Commons.
How to Commit a Legal Rip-off: Creative CommonsAnne Arendt
In order to not be plagiarizing materials, we need to ensure adequate copyright release and attribution for resources we use inside and outside the classroom. This presentation, instead of focusing on copyright issues and limitations, will focus on items placed in whole or in part into the public domain.
Important: Visit http://works.bepress.com/anne_arendt/6/ to view the full paper with proper credit where credit is due (the powerpoint and paper went hand in hand).

31. Some people will always take our online
work or change it without permission. With
Creative Commons, we can at least make a
balance between copyright with “all rights
reserved”, policy and public domain with “no
rights reserved”.
