SimonBowdenhasbeenleadingtheArtsFoundation
since 2002. Prior to this, he was the Director of the
WellingtonJazzFestival.SimonstudiedattheWelling-
tonConservatoriumofMusicinthelate90sandisstill
actively involved in music – playing guitar and banjo
professionally. Simon has raised over $30 million for
theartsindonations,sponsorshipandlegacies.Heis
the founder of Boosted.
Jess Holly Bates
Event Director
JessHollyBatesisatheatrepractitioner,vulnerability
junkie, writer and artist, who loves to communicate
cultural criticism through performance. She investi-
gates the way our bodies behave in social relations,
particularlyinrelationtoourongoingcolonialhangover
in New Zealand. In 2014 her acclaimed solo theatre
show ‘Real Fake White Dirt’, (Best Writing NZ Fringe
2015) was published as a book of poetry by Anahera
Press. She believes the only way to acknowledge our
difficult history is to lean into the real discomfort of
being Pakeha. Her 2016 work ‘The Offensive Nipple
Show’ is a collaborative body project responding to
thedangerouswaysgenderpoliticsaredisconnecting
usfromoneanother.Throughperformance,sheseeks
tofindnewwaysoflookingateachothersbodies,that
are both cheeky and empowering.
Stuart Robertson
Artist
Contemporary artist, adventurer and humanitarian
StuartRobertsonmeldsphotography,sculpture,film,
symbolismandsocialmediawithcastglass,neonlight-
boxes and metal fabrication to create stunning large
scale art works that speak profoundly to the viewer,
causingaconfrontationofone’sownpreconceptions
and an acknowledgement of our similarities in the
human condition. His photographic work has gained
momentum internationally, photographing the likes
of The Dalai Lama, Demi Moore, Emily Blunt, Danny
Devito, Daryl Hannah, Ringo Starr, Brooke Shields
and more. His works have become highly collectable
and now hang in many established art collections
throughout New Zealand, the USA and Europe.
Word — The Front Line
Artist
Action Education provides workshops, platforms and
stages throughout New Zealand for young people to
sharetheirstoriesthroughcreativeexpression.Oneof
their programmes is an inter high school poetry slam
called Word–The Front Line. Word-The Front Line is a
made up of a team of spoken word artists, facilitators
and mentors leading in their field. Tonight, Ken Arkind,
an American National Poetry Slam Champion, Tedx
Speakerandpublishedauthorwillbeperformingalong-
sidesomeoftheremarkableyoungpoetswhotookpart
in Word - The Front Line this year.

JessicaPearlessisanAucklandbasedpainterandsite
responsiveinstallationartistworkingwithAbstraction.
She has exhibited widely in public, private and com-
mercialartspacesthroughoutNewZealandandinter-
nationally.Jessicahasbeenawardednumerousprizes
for her work including the Inaugural Artists Alliance
Artist in Residence, 2011; a prestigious AMP National
Scholarship, 2011; Merit Award in The New Zealand
PaintingandPrintmakingAward,2013&2014;Creative
New Zealand Quick Response Grant, 2013. Jessica
hasexhibitedlargescalesculpturalworksatheadland
SculptureontheGulf,AucklandandSculpturebythe
Sea, Bondi, Sydney, Australia in 2013.
Auckward Love
Artist
Emmett Skilton is a New Zealand-born actor, pro-
ducer and director who works extensively between
NewZealandandtheUnitedStates.AmongTVguest
appearancesandfeaturefilmrolesearlyinhiscareer,
Emmett graduated from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand
Drama School at the end of 2009 and within months
had secured the lead role of Axl Johnson in The
Almighty Johnsons, which received notable national
andinternationalsuccess.In2015heco-foundedthe
production company ‘We Three Productions’ with
actress Holly Shervey and writer/actress Jess Sayer
andcommencedproducinganddirectingthehugely
successful web-series ‘Auckward Love’, created by
Shervey with Sayer as head writer.
The Modern Maori Quartet

The award-winning Modern Māori Quartet (MMQ)
bringstheconceptofaMāoriRatpackintothepresent
withacontemporarytwist,weavingthegroupsacting
and musical abilities together to tell stories that fuse
humorousMāoristorytellingwiththeWesterntradition
of showband entertainment. MMQ’s work highlights
New Zealand’s musical past and present through a
repertoire that blends old school charm with mod-
ern pizzazz, featuring unique spins on Māori waiata,
showband hits and pop music, all infused with the
multitalentedMāorifoursome’sirresistiblecharisma,
sublime harmonies and humour.
