Lessons-learned from embedding design into a developmental evaluation: The si...Chi Yan Lam, CE
Presented at the 2015 Annual Conference of the American Evaluation Association #eval15. ABSTRACT: Recent attempts at developmental evaluation (DE) are incorporating human-centered design (HCD) principles (Dorst, 2011; IDEO, n.d.) to facilitate program development. HCD promotes a design-oriented stance toward program development and articulates a set of values that focuses the evaluation beyond those ideals expressed by stakeholders. Embedding design into DE promises to offer a more powerful means to promoting program development beyond either approach alone. Yet, embedding design into DE introduces additional challenges. Drawing on a case study into a design-informed DE, this panelist discusses the tensions and challenges that arose as one developmental evaluator attempted to introduce design into a DE. Insights from the case study point to the importance of:
- Attending to power dynamics that could stifle or promote design integration; and,
- Evaluator sensitivity over the deep attachment program developers had over program decisions
These findings allude to the significance of organizational culture in enabling a design-informed DE.
As a developer, your role in achieving product success is more critical than ever – and so is the need for you to work closely with designers to understand what matters to your users. When implementing onscreen interactions, you need to understand not just the letter of the spec, but its spirit – the end goals that those interactions help people accomplish.
In this talk we’ll cover UX essentials for any developer – the key points you need to know, and the questions you should to ask to make sure your work provides the best experience for the people who use it. Because taking ownership of your role in creating the UX is crucial for delivering product success.
CHRISTOPHER KELLY: How Would the World be Different if the UN was Not Set The...techsytalk
Chris Kelly, co-founder of Convene, will discuss the importance of face-to-face meetings, and the role meetings play in maintaining connections and culture in today’s world, where the lines between work and life have become increasingly blurred.
In an increasingly virtualized world, many data points suggest that organizations are not only in need of skills training but also relational collaboration. What can we do about it? How can we create continuing change and growth in the workplace — the kind that translates to bottom-line impact? New York Times best-selling author Keith Ferrazzi has met with more than 50 chief learning officers and heads of HR who have offered insight and advice for bringing innovation to life. In this keynote, Ferrazzi will explore:
• Formalizing informal learning by creating and managing an environment rich with peer-to-peer learning opportunities.
• Examples of virtual and technology-enabled learning that succeed in engaging learners and fostering collaboration.
• New methods of segmentation and the implications for resource allocation.
• Measurement and systems to support the new learning model.

Pane'ramik - Effective Marketing with VideoBlake Rea
Video marketing is a powerful medium that will have your prospects reaching for their wallets. These are things you need to consider if you want to have an Effective Marketing Campaign.
Designing for the PresentFuture w/ Socratic Experience DesignFritz Desir
How do you design what you design? What is the typical thought process you go through? Have you considered interrogating the way you think and how you make (design) decisions in order to make better ones?
Often as Designers (which includes you “strategists” and “creatives”) due to habit, external pressures and lack of resources we can often get to solution mode too quickly. Even with the best tools, strategy, UX and design thinking methods in mind, rapid solutioning before proper questioning can often lead to far less than ideal outcomes.
With technology, formats and problem spaces evolving daily a very old but often unconsidered form of thinking, questioning, needs consideration. How can the skill of inquiry be developed to help us solve bigger (design) problems in more inspiring ways? In this deck (output from a talk) I discuss how the process of forming "beautiful" design questions can help strengthen your design process, revitalize the artifacts you make, help you get a seat at "the grown-up table" in your organization and prepare you for a world of never ending design.
MW18 Workshop: Experiential Master Plans: Integrating Digital Experiences Int...MuseWeb Foundation
By Brad Baer, Bluecadet, USA
Gone are the days of beginning an experience at a gate or front door. Thanks to technology and interconnectivity we now interact with spaces and places in several different ways before we even arrive and in a much different manner on-site. Irregardless of whether you view this is for the best, it’s clearly here to stay and it means that we should migrate from creating Master Plans towards creating Experiential Master Plans.
Following this session, attendees will:
1. Be able to clearly explain the concept of an experiential master plan that considers the pre, during, and post-visit experience.
2. Have a better idea of how websites, apps, touchscreens, and interactive environments can be integrated into the built environment to improve the overall experience for a diverse audience
3. Learn how to interface with digital agencies and evaluate when and how dynamic interfaces should be integrated into a space.

How Sapient Razorfish Cuts Its Campaign Deployment Times from Days to Minutes...Amazon Web Services
SapientRazorfish, a leader in creating digital experiences for companies and brands, needed a solution to deploy campaigns rapidly – often within a day – to meet the needs of demanding marketers and consumers. Rackspace created an automated ‘Single Campaign per Solution’ process on AWS, with a standard protocol around Elastic Beanstalk for the Web/Application tier. Today SapientRazorfish launches campaigns within 5 minutes, compared with 3 days previously. That improvement has led to SapientRazorfish having happier customers, delivering more timely, effective campaigns, and reducing costs, all with minimal change for developers.

Holistic experience design (HxD) for Nasdaq Proconf 2015Fritz Desir
A rapid fire talk I gave on an evolving area I've been studying which I call Holistic Experience Design. HxD eschews silo thinking whether at the team level (dept vs. dept vs. agency vs. consultant) or at the artifact level (service vs. product) to look at what can be made by combining.
It is still a work in progress. Feedback welcomed.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
You could be a professional graphic designer and still make mistakes. There is always the possibility of human error. On the other hand if you’re not a designer, the chances of making some common graphic design mistakes are even higher. Because you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s where this blog comes in. To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.
