6. Context – where Counity does not work
• Hackney remains the second most deprived local authority in England - all of the
wards are in the top ten percent most deprived in the country.
• The UK is the only G7 country where the wealth gap has increased in 2010-14

• Income Equality leads to… Increased social distance which means… Less likely to
trust which…Prevents strong relationships that are needed for health
• Income equality correlates strongly with obesity, drug use, infant mortality etc

• Decrease in unemployment, but increase in in-work poverty
• More people working in call centres than ever worked in mines
• 1/5th people working at below the living wage
• Rise in self-employment – 42% gender pay gap among self-employed workers,
with most women earning less than £10,000
