PCR and RT-PCR are molecular techniques used to detect COVID19. PCR amplifies DNA sequences to detect viruses, while RT-PCR first converts RNA to DNA (cDNA) and then amplifies the cDNA to detect viruses like COVID19. Rapid test kits are also used to test for COVID19 and provide faster results than RT-PCR methods, but are generally less sensitive than RT-PCR tests.

method for amplifying defined target DNA sequences present within

• This technique was formulated by Kary Mullis in1985 .
• PCR are conventional technique .

5. WHAT ARE REAL TIME -PCR
1. RT- PCR is a method in which RNA first is converted to cDNA and
then cDNA is amplified by PCR.
2. RT-PCR is a very sensitive technique for detecting and quantifying
RNA.
3. There are four steps to RT-PCR
• cDNA synthesis by reverse transcription
• Denaturation
• Primer annealing
