Online Course Review Checklist
Checklists that can be used to review online courses formatively, during the design of an online course, or summatively, to do a formal course review after an online course has been designed. It can also be used after the delivery phase to inform revisions to improve online course quality.
Schoology as a Learning Space

- 1. Course Navigation Think about how your students get around in your course. Wouldn't you rather have them spend their time working than figuring out where to go.
- 2. The Course Menu It's the primary tool to guide your students to all aspects of your online course.
- 3. The Course Menu We add links to structural elements and important tools. And we use dividers to help with flow.
- 4. Course Home Often the entry point of the course. It should be a map of the chronological or thematic units.
- 5. Course Home The first module should be labeled as the starting link
- 6. Course Structure How is your course segmented? Modules, units, weeks? Most online courses use a tool to organize the content and tools the students need to see or use during that learning period . The “learning module” tool automatically builds a table of contents and loads the first page so the students don’t have to click twice to get started.
- 8. The first module page Should guide the students through objectives, instructional materials, and activities that support the objectives and other supporting information.
- 9. Orientation The first module of the course should include orientation materials an introduction to the course an introduction to the instructor student introductions just-in-time help and activities that introduce the main tools used in the course.
- 10. Course Navigation be thoughtful about these navigational elements and you will have more successful students .
