2. An Introduction Research Methodology in
the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
• This module is primarily research driven one preparing undergraduate students for their
dissertation which they normally submit in their final year.
• It will encourage you, students to become research active in their your fields of expertise, by
undertaking ethically and methodologically correct academic research.
• This module will provide you with an introduction to quantitative, qualitative and mixed
research methods and to the skills required when planning, collecting, analysing and
disseminating research data.
• You will also be equipped with the skills and knowledge to conduct conventional research in
the social sciences and languages as well as practice-based research.
• The module also is open to anyone among the general public and anyone who is interested to
carry out research.
3. Relevance to the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDG’s)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be highly relevant to
research methodology in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
(AHSS).
SDGs offer a framework that can enhance the relevance, rigor, and impact
of research methodology in AHSS by emphasizing interdisciplinary
collaboration, social justice, community engagement, ethical considerations,
and policy impact.
Integrating SDGs into research methodology can help AHSS scholars
address pressing global challenges and contribute to building a more
sustainable and equitable world.
4. Mode of Delivery
• The Course is offered on a blended more in which there will be 6 online and four
face to face sessions.
• Three face to face sessions will be mainly for seminars, tutorials and discussions.
• The last face to face session is reserved for presentations of your research proposal.
5. Assessment
• There will be three minor assessments based on 20 marks and the final
research proposal will be on 40 marks.
• The minor assessments may be in the form of quizzes, tests, short structured
questions or assignments.
