Montenegro is a country in Southeast Europe located on the Adriatic Sea. It borders several other countries and has a population of around 620,000 people. The capital and largest city is Podgorica. Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in 2006 and has its own flag, consisting of a red field with a coat of arms in the center and golden borders. The majority of the population speaks Serbian or Montenegrin. The culture features traditional dances, religious festivals, and sports like football are very popular.

Montenegro is a country in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Bosnia and
Herzegovina to the northwest; Serbia and Kosovo[a] to the east, Albania to the south and
Croatia to the west. Montenegro has an area of 13,812 square kilometres and a population of
620,079 (2011 census). Its capital Podgorica is one of the twenty-three municipalities in the
country. Cetinje is designated as the Old Royal Capital. Proclaimed its independence from
Serbia unilaterally on June 3, 2006.

3. Flag of Montenegro
The flag of Montenegro was officially adopted with the Law on the state symbols and the
statehood day of Montenegro on 13 July 2004 at the proposal of the government of
Montenegro. It was constitutionally sanctioned with the proclamation of the Constitution on 22
October 2007. It is a red banner with broader golden edges all around the red field with the
coat of arms of Montenegro in its center. The flag of Montenegro is red, with the coat of arms
in the middle, and golden borders. The ratio of the flag is 1:2. The coat of arms takes up 2⁄3 of
the flag's height.

to be their native language, while 37% declared it to
be Montenegrin.

Montenegrin food encapsulates it all. There are so many varieties of foods, all delicious. Most
Montenegrin food is generally healthy with an emphasis on fresh, local vegetables, quality
meat or seafood and a good dose of healthy olive oil.
Montenegrin food in the restaurants in the tourist centres tend to be heavy on pizza and pasta.

7. Religion in Montenegro
Montenegro is a multi-religious country but has
Orthodox Christianity as its dominant religion with
adherents of 74.24% of the country’s population. The
other major religions are Islam with 17.74% followers
and Roman Catholicism which has 3.54% adherents.
Only two lesser-known minority religions exist in the
country. They are Protestantism and the Judaism.

8. Sport of Montenegro
The Sports in Montenegro revolves mostly around team
sports, such as football, basketball, water polo, volleyball,
and handball. Other sports involved are boxing, tennis,
swimming, judo, karate, athletics, table tennis, and chess.
The most popular sport is football. Notable players from
Montenegro were Dejan Savićević, Predrag Mijatović, Mirko
Vučinić, Stefan Savić or Stevan Jovetić. Montenegrin
national football team, founded at 2006, played in playoffs
for UEFA Euro 2012, which is the biggest success in the
history of national team.

9. Customs, Traditions, Celebrations Montenegro
Traditional dance is the gold that consists
of various dancers who form a circle by
hugging their shoulders while one or two
solo dancers dance to the center to the
rhythm of the drums. In the month of June
the Budva Music Festival is celebrated, the
most important music festival held in the
south of the Adriatic. Most of Montenegro's
festivals and traditions are linked to
religious festivities, such as Orthodox
Christmas or Good Friday.
8. They celebrate during the month of May
the so-called "Days of the Lilacs", a
tradition linked to the Middle Ages that is
commemorated in honor of Helena de
Anjou.
