Editor's Notes

  1. If unsure of the schemes you can call myself or call into a daffodil cen€€€tre in the hospital
  2. If unsure of the schemes you can call myself or call into a daffodil cen€€€tre in the hospital
  3. We've created a special fund to help families in financial hardship when faced with a cancer diagnosis. The fund is for patients that have been diagnosed with cancer, and who are personally unable to meet a specific financial burden that arises exclusively out of a diagnosis or treatment of cancer. This is a limited fund for needy cases, where other non-charitable sources are unable to help (like social welfare assistance, community welfare officer, or community groups). We can make urgent applications via fax. Average amount given is €350 – 500Can’t assist with medication costs/loss of earning/rent or mortgage.
  4. Neary 2000 applications in 2011
  5. Every year we do briefing sessions and request that all interested healthcare professionals attend. New staff members may not be aware of the scheme.GP’s may not be aware of the scheme,If they do not have the application they can call us to get more information on the scheme and we can send it out. We don’t send application directly to patients. Reasons: Manage the funds, Ensure that there is a genuine financial need. A lot of information requested so we do not wish to burden patient further. These centres will provide treatment for all forms of cancer, involving diagnostic, surgical, medical (systemic) and radiation oncology services. The National Cancer Strategy - A Strategy for Cancer Control in Ireland- published in 2006, recommended that Cancer Centres should be networked together in Managed Cancer Control Networks and there should be a broad aim of equipping each of the HSE's four regions with broad self sufficiency of services in relation to the more common forms of cancer.
