1. Costumes for Opening Sequence
The costume within any film genre is crucially important to defining a character and accentuating every detail
and visual nuance of their on-screen personality. It also gives the audience the chance to assess this on screen
persona that they are presented with, and make inferences and deductions into the role of this character within
the context of the film. Also this gives the audience the chance to interpret he meaning behind the symbolism
associated with the characters iconography i.e. why has the director made the conscious choice to portray this
character in a very dark attire. These artistic choices that I have made reference to in the latter sentence, are
entirely genre dependant and rely heavily on the writer’s voice within the script; which to an extent contributes
significantly to the way the character is shaped, defined and ultimately portrayed on-screen by an actor.
Within the context of the opening sequence of my film, the first characters aren’t clearly defined by the items
which they were as this adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the film. For instance within the first scene the
characters faces will remain hidden, but their shoes, legwear and parts of their upper body will be seen.
Within the second scene of my opening sequence the central
character will be wearing a white shirt and a tie, which gives of
the impression of formality. It also highlights the degree of
professionalismthat can be construed through this characters
appearance i.e. whether or not his shirt is tucked in, sleeves
rolled up or left neatly buttoned up; in other words this gives
me room to manoeuvre in the my portrayal of the characters
physical and emotional state. The tie is not only an additional
requirement to this characters job title but can also be used as
a form of micro-symbolism i.e. the colour of the tie could be
used to construe not only the characters emotional state to the
audience but also foreshadow future occurrences within the
film.

2. Actors
Matthew Wood- I have chosen to use him to play
one of the characters within the opening scene of
my films opening sequence due to the fact that he
is available for filming on the dates I have specified
and he will be well suited to the role. The will be
well suited to the role due to the fact that the
character I imagined within this scene has similar
build and height and therefore Matt should be
able to embody the roll perfectly. Furthermore as
the saying goes ‘quid pro quo’; I helped him with
his opening sequence so I believe he will be able to
help me with mine
Will Purnell: I have chosen Will as I have spoken to
him about whether he will be available to film on
the dates specified and he confirmed he would be
able. Furthermore he is well adjusted to suiting the
profile of one of the characters within the
narrative of my opening sequence
