The Cortex project, led by Chalmers University of Technology with 17 European and 2 non-European organizations, focuses on the development and validation of advanced core monitoring techniques for nuclear reactors to enhance safety and performance. It aims to create high-fidelity tools for simulating neutron flux fluctuations, advance signal processing methodologies, and disseminate knowledge to the nuclear sector. The project is funded for four years starting from September 2017, addressing the urgent need for effective reactor monitoring amidst an aging fleet operating near safety limits.
