Cortana is the code name for Microsoft's digital assistant being developed for Windows Phone. Cortana is based on an AI character from the Halo video game series named Cortana. Cortana will incorporate Bing SmartSearch features and allow natural voice interaction without predefined commands. Cortana will have a Notebook to store personal information from the user which it can use to offer personalized services by learning patterns and behaviors. Cortana aims to be helpful as a personal digital assistant for organizing daily activities alongside web searches.

 To anyone who's played the Halo games, Cortana needs no introduction:
she's an advanced artificial intelligence and Master Chief's only real friend.
 Cortana is currently the code name for a whole new way of controlling
Windows Phone, and in the longer term maybe Windows too.
 Bing SmartSearch features are incorporated into Cortana

• Cortana's features include being able to set reminders
• Cortana recognize natural voice without the user having to input a
predefined series of commands, and answer questions using information
from Bing (like current weather and traffic conditions, sports scores, and
biographies)
• Windows 8.1's universal Bing SmartSearch features are incorporated into
Cortana, which replaces the previous Bing Search app which is activated
when a user presses the "Search" button on their device.

5. Notebook
• The "Notebook" is where personal information such as interests, location
data, reminders, and contacts will be stored for access by Cortana.
• Cortana will be able to draw upon and add to this data in order to learn the
user's specific patterns and behaviors.
• The user will be able to view this information, with the aim of offering
greater control over privacy settings by allowing them to specify what
information is collected, "a level of control that goes beyond comparable
assistants".
• Users can also delete information from the "Notebook" if they deem it
undesirable for Cortana to know.

6. HISTORY BEHIND CORTANA !
 Cortana is a fictional artificially intelligent (AI) character in
the Halo video game series.
 The origin of Cortana is not explained in the video games, but in
the Halo novels. Her first chronological appearance in the story is in Halo:
The Fall of Reach, a 2001 prequel to the first Halo game.
 Cortana is constructed from the cloned brain of Dr. Catherine Elizabeth
Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN Project.
 According to the Halo novels, Cortana is classified as a "smart" AI,
meaning that her creative matrix is allowed to expand, in contrast to the
limited matrix of other "dumb" AI characters in the stories.
