3. FIELD STUDY 1: OBSERVATIONS OF TEACHING-
LEARNING IN ACTUAL SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
This is the first experiential course, which will immerse a
future teacher to actual classroom situations and learning
environment where direct observation of teaching learning
episodes that focuses on the application of educational
theories learned in content and pedagogy courses will be
made. Observations on learners’ behavior, motivation,
teacher’s strategies of teaching, classroom management,
assessment in learning among others shall be given
emphasis.
4. The TEI should maintain a facility within which
the students can undertake their field study. This
facility may be a laboratory school administered
by the TEI. In cases when TEI has NO
LABORATORY school, the TEI must have a long-
term memorandum of agreement with a
Department of Education cooperating school or
with a cluster of cooperating schools within
which student can undertake their field study
and practicum courses.
5. GUIDELINES AND POLICIES
● You shall serve 4 days a week, 1 hour a day in your Cooperating School for the duration of the
Field Study Program or a total of 54 hours.
● Every Friday, you shall report for a conference with the Field Study Supervisor.
● You shall log in 15 minutes before the official time and shall log out 15 minutes after the official
time in your Cooperating School.
● In case of sickness or any untoward incident, you shall inform the Cooperating Teacher, the
Field Study Supervisor and the Batch Representative of your absence at least one hour before
your official time.
● An absence is considered excused only if it is caused by (a) sickness (with medical certificate) (b)
family emergency (with a letter from the parent/guardian) or (c) force of nature (calamities).
● In case of excused absences, you shall do the make-up duty which is equivalent to the number
of days missed which should be done after the second shift.
● You shall also be marked absent if you incur 3 times of tardiness regardless of the number of
minutes late. For 1-15 minutes of tardiness, you shall do makeup duty of one hour, 16-30
minutes is two hours, 31-45 minutes is three hours, 46-60 minutes is four hours, 61 minutes and
above of tardiness, you shall do makeup duty of six hours.
6. GUIDELINES AND POLICIES
● For unexcused absences, you shall do makeup duty which is equivalent to twice the
number of days missed. You shall likewise be given a written warning and shall receive
demerits for the absences incurred.
● After 14 days of absences, you shall be pulled out from your cooperating school and you
will receive a grade of 70.
● You are expected to preserve the good name of College of Teacher Education. As such,
any misbehavior shall not be tolerated and shall be dealt with accordingly following due
process.
● Any problem/concern that you experienced, you shall report immediately to the Batch
Representative who in turn will report to the Field Study Supervisor for proper action.
● When the Field Study Supervisor visits a cooperating school, you should have aired your
problem/concern to your designated batch representative before a conference between
the Cooperating Teacher and the Field Study Supervisor is held.

A.Cooperating School
1. Assigns a field study student to a qualified cooperating
teacher in coordination with the Department Head/
Chairman and with the Field Study Supervisor
2. Conducts regular conference with the cooperating teachers
with regard to the performance of field study students
3. Coordinates with the college supervisor of the student
teacher/s
4. Sees to it that student teachers are not allowed to substitute
for teachers who are absent and/or on leave
5. Prepares required reports to the College of Teacher
Education.

B. Resource Teacher/Mentor
1. Observes mentor-mentee relationship
2. Assists the student observers in gaining skills and knowledge in teaching
3. Becomes effective resource person and mentor with regard to:
1. regular class observation and post conference
2. lesson planning
3. use of varied strategies/approaches/techniques
4. classroom management
5. assessment of learning outcomes
6. questioning techniques
7. preparation of instructional materials
4. models effective teaching and management techniques
5. advises, counsels, coaches and mentors student observer/s under his/her
care
6. recommends and/or gives assigned field study student a PASS or FAIL
remarks and the corresponding numerical rating based on the prepared
rubrics for the intended field study competencies
7. guides field study student/s on activities and competencies stated in the
prescribed syllabus
8. helps in the evaluation of the field study program that would be
contributory to its improvement and enhancement.
12. ROLES, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
C. TEI College Supervisor
1. Orients pre-service teachers on the rationale and procedures of the experiential learning
courses and some classroom observation rules
2. Conducts orientation meetings in order that expectations of both parties are made clear to
all concerned
3. Determines the readiness and ability of pre-service teachers to undergo field study
activities
4. Coordinates with the cooperating school head regarding the field study activities and the
competencies that the student need to explore on
5. Orients the field study students on their tasks and endeavors
6. Conducts regular observation and evaluation of the field study students
7. Coordinates regularly with the cooperating school principal/head teacher, and cooperating
teacher regarding performance, attitude and attendance of the field study students.
8. Submits written reports to the College Dean, copy furnished to the school principal and the
Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) at least twice a month regarding the:
1. Progress/performance of field study students
2. Problems/difficulties met by the field study students in the conduct of their tasks
3. Solutions/actions taken to solve the problems.
9. Guides field study students on the activities and competencies stated in the prescribed
syllabus

1. Participates actively in the field study program
2. Notifies the Cooperating Teacher and the Supervisor in case of absence

6. Accomplishes the field study portfolio and other requirements
7. Projects a good image that bespeaks of a professional future teacher at all times

and relationship with the cooperating teacher, the students, and
other school staff, attendance and compliance of the requirements.
