Regulatory Drivers For CleanTech and Green Jobs: When people think of CleanTech, they usually think of wind turbines and solar panels, but there may be a burgeoning opportunity in energy efficiency. Many states, including Michigan, have adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards that requires utilities to generate a portion of their electricity from renewable sources. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently promulgated a regulation (the GHG BACT) that will require utilities to reduce their carbon emissions, primarily through energy efficiency. However, several members of Congress are trying to cut back on GHG regulations arguing that these regulations are job killers. Come to the Michigan Energy Forum on September 8th to learn about the latest regulatory developments, what they have meant from green jobs in Michigan, and what the future might hold.

It summarizes the results of experiments conducted over 8 weeks to determine the optimal control strategy for disturbances to a heat exchanger process. Four control strategies were evaluated: PI, PID, cascade, and feedforward control. Tests were run using different disturbances and the strategies were compared based on integrated square error, peak error, and response speed. The cascade control strategy was found to perform the best by compensating for process lags and changing conditions more smoothly than the other strategies.

- Sequoyah Nuclear Plant experienced high dissolved oxygen levels in the secondary plant on both units due to a misalignment of the demineralized water sample system. Demineralized water was being sampled instead of condensate, causing dissolved oxygen readings over 100 ppb.
- It took chemistry staff time to recognize the sample system was drawing demineralized water instead of condensate. Once this was identified and the demineralized water pressure regulators were adjusted, normal dissolved oxygen readings were restored.
- Lessons learned include maintaining clear communications during system changes, capturing all knowledge into procedures to prevent reliance on tribal knowledge, and improving system design to prevent similar sample misalignments.

Sewage treatment plant under study has 9 MLD capacity and is located in Gurgaon. It receives sewage from the surrounding residential areas and after three stage treatment, treated effluent is supplied back to meet water requirement for various purposes. This has certainly reduced dependency on the precious underground water and thereby reducing the burden and saving environment. For performance evaluation of the sewage treatment plant samples were collected at various stages i.e., at inlet raw sewage, after primary treatment, secondary treatment and after tertiary treatment. Samples were tested to measure various parameters like pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Kjedahl Nitrogen (TKN), Total Coliform, Phosphorous and Oil & Grease. Data on above parameters were observed and collected for three months November, 2014 to January, 2015. All these treatment are adding a huge cost to the recycled water. Hence the present study is aimed to provide alternatives to reduce the cost input. Also studies were made to find out ways by minimizing processes and stages of treatment.
