The goal is to transform the experience of parents handing their children a tablet into meaningful shared reading time with an innovative new storytelling medium. Marketing Firefly will involve partnerships with parents, libraries, publishers, and the mobile industry to reach its potential audience of millions of children and families.

Building a good e-book experience means thinking not only about the technology and the content, but also supporting the adults and older children who are helping children seek, learn and explore in the digital age.
Technology usage among children has risen significantly from 1999 to 2009, with time spent on devices doubling or tripling. While some apps and programs can benefit learning, the overuse of technology is concerning some as it may hinder imagination and disconnect children from nature. Additionally, embedded ads in games and apps mean children's technology use may be less about learning or play and more about commercialism. Overall, technology needs to be balanced and monitored to ensure it helps rather than hinders children.

The objective of this session is to discuss the future of science and medical publishing, both within the context of the University of Michigan Medical School and the broader scope of commercial and not-for-profit publishing organizations. We will explore ways to develop revenue opportunities that are built around the open access mechanisms supported by the various funding bodies. We will discuss some specific examples of how to take advantage of the online environment to maximize the visibility and distribution of content.

This presentation represents the work of PF Anderson (UM-THL) with collaborators Claire Myers (UMSI), Gina Genova (UMSI), Susan Brown (Ypsilanti District Library), and David Carter (UM-AAEL).

The goal was to explore comic creation as an innovative role for librarians to engage patients through an accessible format.

Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
