2. Artistic Camerawork
• As this shot is taken from above both
of the main characters we realise
who has a stronger bond with the
public. The singer looks directly to
the screen as the camera is coming
down towards her. I strongly agree
with the fact that this Bird’s Eye POV
shots are effective because they
bring a new sense of space to the
setting as well as originality and
power; The video itself becomes
more sophisticated in terms of
camerawork. If we refer to Hospin’s
music video ‘Ill Mind of Hospin’ which
is a real media product, he interacts
with something that’s above him, as
it gives the audience a different view
of the protagonist.
3. Importance of CU of Artist
• When looking at the importance
of close up shots of the artist as
they appear to be in many music
videos, Fatima, our artist is shot
in an extreme close-up to reveille
her face in order for the audience
to remember her image for
gaining popularity. In the same
time it shows a courageous and
extroverted attitude from our
artist because she is not shy to
show everything that she is able
to do becoming a very confident
character by revealing herself
clearly and very “out there” a
well. A great similarity would be
found in the Azelia Banks
“Chasing Time” video.
4. Costumes & Props
• This shot lets the audience drawn their
attention towards the outfit of the
artist and the ropes which are
surrounding her. It gives out sexuality
and femininity in the same time
because of the provocative
transparent dress and the tangled
ropes that the protagonist is using as
props while singing. This shot is alike
Beyonce’s music video ‘Upgrade You’
where we find her laying on a surface
full of precious stones and expensive
belongings. Although our artist has a
meaner and more mysterious look
because of the dark colours used for
the props and costumes which from
my opinion makes her beauty stand
out, it is similar to what Beyonce’s shot
portrays which is the arrogant and the
glamourous side of the female kind.
5. Conspicuous Use of Light
• The lighting chosen for this shot
was purposely arranged so that if
gives the kind of danger and also
that would make it look like an
underground location, similar to
a tunnel. As Fatima is in control
of the other protagonist which is
trapped in some elastics
struggling to reach to the singer
that becomes a teasing game
between the two characters.
Nicole Scherzinger “Whatever U
Like” conveys the same sense of
atmosphere through the use of
smoke and darkness.
6. Forms
• I found inspiration from
an old music video that I
have directed and
created the settings for
them which is Hello
Geneva with Freak. The
scene where we have
used the lycra wall to let
the faces come through
while one of the
protagonist is
performing in front to
create an untouchable
sense of her.
7. Digipack
For our digipack we
incorporated the same
thematic elements as in the
video such as material and
dark lighting, as well as a
confident portrait close up
to adhere to our star image.
This is similar in appearance
to Selena Gomez’s album
cover for her album ‘stars
dance’.
8. website
We made our website
minimalistic, as this is a
consistent theme
throughout our products.
We also continued our use
of black. Angel Haze’s
website has a similar colour
scheme. Also the same
concept.
